We let our first kitty outside for one night the day we took her in from straying. After tossing and turning worrying about her, we brought her inside and never let any of our cats out again. All 12 of the cats we've had in our nearly 30 years of marriage have done just fine inside.

Yeah, and I bet a lot of Post #22 happens, too.

Even though cougars are protected in CA they’d have a hard time prosecuting you for shooting one that was attacking pets or livestock on your property.
Last year there was a cougar along the front country between Glendora and the Pasadena area that killed several pets. Finally it was spotted one night in Arcadia and the Arcadia police killed it.

I’m with you. Luckily, two of my cats are big sissies when it comes to going outside, and the third has decided to hang around for the meal service.

LOL!
Doubtful you’ll ever be attacked by a cougar in the wild though it has happened, the ones in the wild still have a fear of man. If you ever are attacked it will be from the rear though so always keep checking your 6. :)

I belled The Great PV, so that on the rare occasions that he slipped out, we could find him. Thankfully, that was only twice, since he was three months old.
When he heard a bell that sounded like his, he was alert and looking for another cat! (I still miss the ol’ wuzzer!)

The mountain lion was probably 3-and-a-half to four feet long, the woman said. It looked like it weighed about 300 pounds. It was four feet tall. That's one wierd-ass looking mountain lion!

I have two cats, Tard & Retard. They act like dogs. They walk with me every evening when I take my Golden Lab for a walk thru the field. I have a doggie door and they use it and I don’t have a litter box. They have free reign and always come in at night on their own. Retard curls up with Maggie, my dog downstairs before bed and Tard goes up and sleeps with Maggie at night. Occassionaly, they do tend to be real stupid, hence their names, and stay out when it is pouring rain. Then they come in and get everything wet. I found 30 minutes on the fluff cycle in the dryer gets that taking care of right away. Add a bounce sheet and they smell good too.

My three seem to do OK. One used to try to escape, but then figured out that the meal service was a lot better inside.

I'm sure unloading a mag of 180gr Golden Sabers into the big cat would of stopped the attacksPLease people, get a 12 ga. Yes, the 180's would work, IF you could hit it.
As a note, the house cats died for a good cause, they let the home owner know there is a BIG DANGEROUS cat in their neighborhood and their kids can be watched and guarded, Thank you house cats.

if residents see a mountain lion they are not authorized to shoot the animal, but immediately notify the sheriff's department and the DFG. Well that's smart of them. Don't shoot the poor mountain lion, just let him attack you while your trying to notify the right authorities.
