Federal prosecutors say a Missouri mother should serve three years in prison for her role in a MySpace hoax on a 13-year-old neighbor girl who committed suicide. The government outlined its position in court documents filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. The filing comes after probation officials recommended Lori Drew should be placed on probation for one year and fined $5,000. Prosecutors say Drew violated MySpace service rules by helping create a fictitious teen boy on the social networking site and sending flirtatious messages in his name to Megan Meier, a neighbor in suburban St. Louis.

Drew is a sociopath. I’d like to see her serve some jail time.

Sure... we can all be a little more understanding... let psycho mom serve out her probation at the homes of these "probation officials."

This woman does not deserve to walk away from this without a prison sentence.

My understanding is that Drew still accepts no responsibility for the CHILDS death. I’m very aware that the laws on this might be vague but there is such a thing as an overriding need for justice.

Ms. Drew is a very sick woman. I don’t think she should be released to go home and continue to influence her daughter. Her daughter should be in counseling and kept as far as possible from the woman until she is treated successfully.

Agreed. Drew may well do this kind of thing again, and I can only imagine the kind of mother she is.

Does anyone else have a problem with the fact that the two “crimes” listed in the article are:

1) violating Myspace service rules, and
2) intentionally causing emotional harm
?

It’s one thing to condemn someone’s behavior, but when you cross the line to say “screw the law, EVERYONE knows he’s evil, just skip the process and throw the bastard in jail!” you’re inviting mob rule and government persecution of anything unpopular.

And before you guys start attacking me, what happens when ACORN and Barry decide some of your comments here on FR are “intentionally causing emotional harm”?

If intentionally causing emotional harm is a crime, then everyone in the United State should be in jail. Every person in this country has committed that crime.

Actually, the specific crimes were:

“Drew could face up to three years in prison and a $300,000 fine after being convicted in November of three counts of accessing computers without authorization.”

Sounds kind of like a trespassing type of violation. But apparently it’s a federal crime. I wonder if it applies to using someone’s unprotected wireless network without authorization from the owner.
