E. Edwards on her husband: It's 'complicated'
Charlotte Observer ^ | 4/5/2009 | Jim Morrill

Posted on 05/05/2009 12:29:20 PM PDT by NotchJohnson

Asked if she is still in love with her husband, Elizabeth Edwards told Oprah Winfrey “that's a complicated question.”

And when Winfrey asked about marriage, Edwards said, “Neither one of us is out the door so I guess it's day by day, but maybe it's month-by-month.”

Edwards' appearance on Oprah Thursday marks her most extensive public comments since former Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. John Edwards acknowledged an affair last summer.

Winfrey interviewed both Edwards at their sprawling, 28,000-foot Chapel Hill home. Her publicists released a partial transcript Tuesday of what they called “a no-holds-barred conversation, where no topic is off limits.”

Edwards also talked about the child of her husband's mistress and her own struggle with terminal cancer. The broadcast airs in Charlotte at 4 p.m. Thursday on WSOC-TV (Channel 9).

It will come a day before the release of Elizabeth Edwards' new book, “Resilience,” in which she describes her reaction to her husband's admission of an affair with former campaign worker Rielle Hunter.

“I cried and screamed,” she wrote. “I went to the bathroom and threw up.”

In the TV interview, Elizabeth Edwards told Winfrey that she'd only asked her husband for one gift when they married 31 years ago.

“What was that?” Winfrey asked.

“I wanted him to be faithful to me,” Edwards replied. “It was enormously important to me.”

The two also discussed Hunter's year-old daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter.

“There is great speculation that your husband John Edwards is the father of that baby,” Winfrey said.

“That's what I understand,” Edwards replied. “I've seen a picture of the baby. I have no idea. It doesn't look like my children but I don't have any idea.”

John Edwards has denied he's the father. A former campaign aide, Andrew Young, has said he is.

Elizabeth Edwards, whose oldest son died at 16 and who is fighting terminal cancer, was asked about her mortality.

“It's not as frightening,” she said. “If there's an ever after – please, please, please – I would be leaving part of my family, but I can … join another party, and wait for that day when we're all together again. In some ways it's something you yearn for.”

I don't even know John Edwards but he is a creep lawyer so I am not surprised that he cheated on his wife.

28,000 sq ft of “eco friendly” home, no doubt... :)

This story is a real trifecta:

1) Mrs. Edwards is a sorry person and dreadfully ill;

2) Oprah always goes for stories like this that are rotten and sad but no one involved in them seems to have any moral compass;

3) John Edwards is a filthy lout.

Now I wonder what they think of their 28-thousand square foot home. Such things don’t mean much when health and your values are absent.

Please! I don't care to hear her plaints. She knew - she's always known what he was and she accepted - ergo, the TWENTY EIGHT THOUSAND SQUARE FOOT home! C'mon, my house is 1500 square feet. Jesus! give me a break. She's as shallow and about as deep as a puddle of spit. Why in the hell is she writing a book? Is she really terminal? Or, is she trying to feather the nest for the rest of her childrens' lives?

I only know this. If she'd have divorced this clown's ass when she knew, Hillary would have won the election - and, lemme tell ya, I never thought I'd say this - but I'd take her as President over the sorry socialist we have now. Rant off....

Complicated = I’m not willing to do anything about it

Whenever a woman said to me “It’s complicated” about anything, I generally took that to mean “My plan is to take it and like it”. That was usually a cue for me to divorce myself of the situation.

Complicated = “oh God, please don’t make me move into a 3,000-square-foot McMansion on the other side of Chapel Hill where the peons live, PLEEEEEEEASE.”

I’m really glad that Johnny Boy’s wandering eye (and other parts) have finished him off politically down here. Look at it this way, Lizzy. With 28,000 square feet to work with, y’all can gain the tax benefits of living in the same house and never have to see each other ever again.

Complicated - Maybe, “I’m dying with terminal cancer. I’ve got a lot of other things on my mind.”

Naw.

Did Mrs. Edwards kneel before Oprah, place her hands between those of Oprah’s, and swear fealty?

Frankly, I find Ms. Edwards appearance on Oprah a bit bizaar. Apparantly, both of the Edwards are so wrapped in celebrity the dedicate their lives to it. Their marriage is nothing more than a soap opera of disconnected scenes.

I don’t think either one of them has any sense of morality or propriety. The thing is, first and formost, to be seen.

How long can a person be “dying” and “terminal” before they should be expected to either die or come up with some new adjectives, such as “living”?

I don't believe women scream and run and throw up when their husbands inform them they have been cheating.

I think the reaction would be more along the lines of sitting there in stunned devastation like you've been pole axed.

But I could be wrong.
