At Nicolet Rifle Club in Suamico, Joe Recka says some members are a little on edge because of President Obama's stance on gun control laws.
"Our new president makes people nervous," said Recka. "Whether they should be or not."
At the internet gun business, TheGunSource.com, hand-gun and rifle ammo has become a commodity.
"We've been selling a lot more ammunition," said owner Eric Thompson. "We've changed our Web site to show what we have instead of what we don't have."
Thompson also attributes the shortage, in part, to gun owner uncertainty about possible gun control laws and ammunition taxes.
"With President Obama being elected, the demand for guns and ammunition has gone up quite a bit. I do believe people are hording quite a bit."
According to the White House Web site, the President is in favor of some changes to gun laws but does respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners.
Ammo shelves are also bare at Gander Mountain in Green Bay. However, the hunting manager says he thinks it has very little to do with firearm politics and more to do with manufacturers honoring increased contract demand.
"Some of it may have to do with military use," said Scott Bertrand. "Not only wars, but ramping up training exercises. So they are going through more ammunition than ever."
The gun and ammunition manufacturer Remington says it is not sure when supply will again meet an increased demand.
"For law enforcement and military, everyone is in good shape," said spokesperson Eddie Stevenson. "For consumers, we're doing a good job, the distribution channels just aren't as quick as demand is sometimes."
Stevenson says the company is working at full capacity in its ammunition department.
Looks like the one I shop at in the Denver area.
just ‘invested’ another small fortune in ‘ballistic wampum’ today at the gun show. my appliance dolly sure comes in handy for ammo totin’!
Nobody wants to say that people are stocking up in case they have to take back the government from Communists.
I know folks now buying ammo for which they do not own calibers of launchers for........they figure down the road they can always trade a cup of sugar for a cup of flour per se.
It’s all about demand.
Guys that bought by the box are buying by the case.
Guys that bought by the case are buying by the pallet.
People that never bought anything are buying what they think might be a lifetime supply.
I can note that magazine makers seem to have caught up quite a bit, you can buy AR15 lowers (the key legal part), but ammo makers running round the clock can’t come close to keeping up with the present demand.
(And don’t believe the uninformed speculation that they aren’t making 380 because the machines are tied up for other cartridges. it simply isn’t true.)
I’m sick of buying by the box. But that’s all there is now. When I see a couple boxes here or there, I snatch them up.
That pretty much sums it up.
Ammo will be required to crush 0bama's coming SA/SS.
could possibly be scary stupid what a couple rounds of .22 long will 'buy' in a year from now...
Agree...... I bow hunt as well . Tackle is piled up for that event so meat on the table is never going to be in question.
Few things have bother me as much of late. Lack of intelligence of voters, basic American traditions and values lost ......Outright robbery of investors in large banking and manufacturing by the “few” in the DNC etc .......crazy insane times.
Small changes like banning so called assault weapons, defined so broadly as to eliminate most semiautomatic firearms, even the most popular .22 rim fire ones. Small things like banning occasional sales at gun shows, with different rules to apply at gun shows than when listing a gun for sale on the 'net, or on a real physical bulletin board, and then doing a face to face transfer. (Licensed dealer sales at gun shows are treated the same as sales from their business location). All that was on the White House site until sometime in the last two or three weeks, now it's gone. But the agenda remains.
Plan to check out a Sportsman's Warehouse next Saturday.
So recognizing all this stockpiling now makes it impossible to take domestic ground without destroying the "producers" what's uncle sugar's next move/tactic?
Not a clue .......all I can do is look at what I “need” and try to preclude them cutting off my sources till we can vote em and their stupidity back to the curb for a few years........ongoing problem I suppose.
Backing conservative ideals and those who promote em and starving off the rest from my dollars and physical support is all I can do for now.
Ballistic wampum.
Geez, where did they find this jackass?
Did he even manage to keep a straight face when spewing this BS?
