The next question is, who is behind it? I could believe either the Russians or Chinese, who have been working on similar transmissible disease vectors for some time (despite being signatories of treaties to “cease and desist”), they have proceeded with this same line of inquiry for at least the past fifty years, and perhaps even longer, if the captured Nazi German scientists had been making satisfactory progress back in the early days of the Cold War.
The Chinese have certainly picked up on the various lines of inquiry and done a LOT of their own research. In fact, they may have had a couple of their experimental strains accidentally get loose within China a couple of times already.
