Cowell to Boyle: "Get yourself together"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Television's Simon Cowell said on Friday he was embarrassed at his initial reaction to singing sensation Susan Boyle, but warned that just because she is a hit with fans, she is not a winner yet. Cowell, the creator and a judge on "Britain's Got Talent," said he was fed up with stories about the hair, eyebrows and cats of the never-married 47-year-old Boyle, and he urged her to focus now on winning the television talent competition.

"She has got four weeks to prepare for the biggest night of her life, and she has got to sing better than she sang before with all those expectations on her. But it could all go horribly wrong for her because there are so many other distractions," Cowell told TV reporters in Los Angeles. "Get yourself together sweetheart for the big one -- the semi-final. Shut the door, choose the right song and come back as who you are, not who you want to be," he said. Boyle, a spinster who lives alone with her cat, became one of the world's hottest celebrities last week after surprising judges with her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" on the popular talent show. Her performance has been watched over 50 million times on YouTube.

Yes to all that, and I think she’d draw well on a few concert tours in Europe and the US, and some other nations.

I agree. My vote is also for Susan. I hope she chooses a great song for the next round. I think singing comes natural for her.

I also saw a video of Susan when she was 25 or 30. (The article and link are somewhere on FR -- I posted there.) She sounds better now than she did then. And the song she sang for a charity CD (made 10 years ago) also sounds really good.

I'm just amazed that Simon can get away with backpedalling on his original impression, only because he wants the young Shaheen to win. That seems unethical.

And if I were Susan, I would be offended at that.

I would hate to see this lovely woman hurt.

I'm sure she would be sad not winning the contest, but win or lose, she's now known, and there will be folks who will be wanting to sign her for projects in the future. I hope her friends and family will protect her from the sharks.

That kid isn’t original though, Susan is.
