Jump The Shark website has a replacement: Bone The Fish

TV Guide bought the famous Jump the Shark website, and pretty much got rid of it. (You can still see most of it archived at www.archive.org)

So someone came along and created a brand new website to fill that void, they call it "Bone the Fish"

What Happened to JTS? Jump the Shark?

You can do the same here as you did on Jump The Shark. You can comment, submit topics for discussion, and vote.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Miscellaneous; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: bigmedia; bonethefish; btf; coopted; jts; jumpedtheshark; jumptheshark; tvguide

“Jumping the Shark” is now a colloquialism. “Boning the Fish” just sounds stupid.

The names aside, it still nice for someone to step into the breech and provide tv fans with what Jump The Shark used to when it existed.

how was TV Guide able to buy anything? Didn’t the whole company sell for a dollar recently?

While Jumping The Shark had its moments, its problem was that it needed to expand its criticism horizons.

That is, bad plot lines and agonizingly demoralizing writing and acting don’t just happen on their own. Somebody is responsible for destroying otherwise good shows. And likely, the same, small number of vandals destroy show after show.

I call it the real “dark side of Hollywood”, those individuals who are very good at persuading others to do things that ruin movies, TV shows, and acting careers.

A favorite example of this is in the actress Jennifer Grey. Daughter of Joel Grey. She was well on her way to being a major Hollywood star, when some *idiot* persuaded her to get a nose job. This turned her from someone who was glamorous and unique into just another character actress.

This unknown and despicable person who did this should be blamed for taking what could have been a magnificent career, and making it ordinary. He or she couldn’t destroy Jennifer Grey’s talent, but they did the next best thing to throwing acid in her face.

Actresses especially, are ruined in this way, by being told to get breast implants, lip collagen, have their eyebrows tattooed on and that funky lip liner tattoo as well. You know someone who really hates women persuaded them to get themselves mutilated.

The Hollywood studio “suits”, studio executives, also want to put their “mark” on successful shows—insisting on the inclusion of stupid and destructive ideas. And they get away with it. And they shouldn’t.

A Jumping The Shark site should hunt these people down and get them fired for bollixing up truly magnificent entertainment that should be remembered as great from start to finish, not blemished by one or more episodes that should never have been done.

No kidding. Either they mean "filleting," or it's something vulgar that I don't want to know about. And either way, it completely lacks the context that made "jump the shark" a comprehensible, if overused, image.

televisionwithoutpity.com does a good job providing a forum for TV lovers and haters to critique shows.

TV Guide bought the Jump the Shark website a couple years before the company sold for one dollar.

I agree. At least "Jump The Shark" was based on something that made sense - it referred to the "Happy Days" episode in which Fonzie, based on a dare, strapped on a pair of water skis and jumped over a shark. The consensus was that the quality of the show really started going down hill from that point on.
