Why are men so devalued in our society that they are made to feel that they have to pay money for someone’s company or a mutual sexual tryst?
It just seems wrong even to pay for the other person’s dinner on a date. It’s as though they don’t really value the man’s company.

Girls today don’t understand that withholding sex gets you much farther with a guy than giving it up.
My Goddaughter is a 21 year old virgin. Guy fall over themselves to get to her. She is cute, but no beautyqueen and yet has guys fawning over her. She says she is too busy with college for any of it. She and her boyfriend are on the same wavelength and they will marry one day.
She is a smart cookie.
And she probably is a smart cookie in more ways than one. Men like mystery and that sums it up. And there is more to beauty than outside appearances as I’m sure you will agree since how many times have we met someone that wasn’t so attractive but once we saw their personality, character, and other traits they became handsome/beautiful AND vice versa. I have met very “beautiful” people who were so nasty/conceited/selfish etc. that they became ugly.
Well you must be reading my mind. It is not just men but particularly white Christian men. I do think the feminism that sprouted in the 60’s has a lot to do with it - Women’s Studies programs in the colleges do much to slam men. What do these women want to do join the Amazon culture of ALL women.
But, this is a much deeper issue. Like I said in an earlier post, men will often do “anything” to obtain the object of their desire and if they are older and want younger, then they “pay to play” so to speak.
Again, it goes against my beliefs but I’m a realist and it happens. And not everyone is a Christian. And even Christian men fall into these traps.

I’ve heard that one before and there’s a lot of truth to that.
I used to have a nanny who later worked in a swanky apartment building where many wealthy people lived. She worked next door to an apartment where this very young gal - late 20s/early 30s was married to this old geezer who had to be in his 80s. My ex-nanny told me nearly every night of the week this girl would go out all decked out for the nightclub circuit. She was just putting in her time b/f the old guy bit the dust.
Well if not it certainly sounds like Oscare Wilde who was incredibly witty.
And of course the reply to that is “counterproductive for you, but not counterproductive for me!”.
I think vice is a very good word and should be brought back into current usage.
It’s a two way street, unfortunately. Both men and women devalue each other in these kind of transactions ... but it has always been thus.

You were not following the thread, Lorianne. The point was that feminism has much (and believe me it does - I’ve seen the talking points) to do with the man-bashing that has been such a trend the past 15-20 years. In particular, our boys are taking a beating in schools. They are expected to act like girls. No wonder so many of our boys are being put on drugs. It’s ridiculous.
I’m also impressed with your analysis. It seems that postmodern feminism has another unforeseen consequence, the two warring tribes bartering sex and money.

Not to me. I see dating as a step towards a possible marriage. Men are in a role of a protector/provider in that case. Not to make too much of it. I don’t think you have to marry every woman you ask out. It’s just a baby step, but still, I don’t see it as a comrade-to-comrade “no roles” sort of thing. In other words, it’s not a business lunch.
Well all that might be true but I don’t see how it’s related to the topic of the post: The online market for ‘kept’ women.
As with any conversation, posts take on a life of their own so it took on a few extra nuances. You see it all the time.
