The Republicans pushed the 22nd through to get back at FDR and the only thing they accomplished was to deny us a third term for President Reagan.
and if alsheimers would have reared its ugly head during his 3rd term, he would have been so vilified by the left as to wipe out all the good he did in the first 2 terms.
better the way it wound up, with RINO Bush 41. It kept Ronaldus Magnus’s legacy clean.
Also denied us a third term for Bill Clinton.
That’s one that I’m willing to live with though, and I doubt Reagan would have run for a 3 term. Remember, FDR was the ONLY president to run for a 3rd term. Everyone else honored the aged tradition of Washington and retired.
Ronnie was likely in the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease by 1988. We would have gotten Bush The Elder as POTUS anyway, but with a lot of unnecessary commotion. (Assuming that Dukakis would have been as easily exposed as he was).
There’s always a ‘damned if you do / damned if you don’t’ factor with anything political.
Did you want Clinton for life?
“The Republicans pushed the 22nd through to get back at FDR and the only thing they accomplished was to deny us a third term for President Reagan.”
We were spared a possible 3rd term of idiot Bush.
I like the 22nd.
P.S.
Reagan already had Alzheimer.
I don’t have doubts he had it before he left office.
