Cris Collinsworth will succeed John Madden as the analyst in the NBC broadcast booth for the network's Sunday night NFL game telecasts, NBC executive Dick Ebersol announced during a conference call with reporters today.
Madden announced his retirement from broadcasting earlier today, rejecting an offer made Wednesday by Ebersol to work the network's September and November games next season and take October and December off.

Time to boycott the sponsors. This guy is the biggest azz to come down the pike. How this guy is even on TV is a mystery.
I was a golf course superintendent at Longboat Key Club in Sarasota FL for years. He came out to play a few times and I got the chance to meet him. Know he leans conservative, but did not get into in depth conversation. One thing I know without a doubt though, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Always friendly and never unwilling to take a minute to speak to anyone who said hello.
I have always enjoyed his broadcasts.
He's nothing more than a self-absorbed little prick. There ends my viewing of Monday Night Football.........
He also trashed Limbaugh on air regarding the McNabb episode so you can hang your hat on the same rack...........
Good story. I think the problem I have with Chris is the dork factor. To me he just comes across that way, but I figure it’s easy to give him his due, especially since he’ll be next to the absolute best in the business.
It’s still Sunday night. It’s still great matchups every week, so of course we’ll still going to watch.
Good luck with Mangenius. Thought teams would learn their lesson from hiring ex-Jet coaches like Herm Edwards. Why on earth would a team hire someone the Jets fired?
This won’t work. I can’t imagine Collingsworth ripping a Turducken apart with his bare hands.
Wow, I’m in a tiny minority - I actually LIKE Collinsworth’s commentary, even if I don’t agree with it. He doesn’t tolerate prima donnas, and I like that.
Generally, I don't like trading away draft picks for veterans, because you just don't know how much tread they have left on them. In Peters' case though, he could have more than a decade in front of him and he's capable of playing at a high level right now.
I was a huge fan of the Stacey Andrews signing as well as the Weaver pick.
If we can nab Brandon Pettigrew at 21 and then a Chung/Hamlin/Moore to shore up FS should Sean Jones not pan out, I'd be very happy with that.
I like what the G Men have done in the offseason and they usually have an impressive draft (although they're routinely the first team to pick a player I'm not familiar with).
Should be some great clashes this year!
Olberwomann already does the pregame and halftime show, along with Dan Patrick and Bob Costas and Jerome Bettis and ...
Yes! And at that point it was just gratuitous piling-on.
Collinsworth is a slug.
What team would hire an Jets ex-head coach?
One that with the NFL’s agreements and tactics in hand basically told a city and its fans the only way to have football back after a 3 year hiatus is to pay for the opportunity to buy tickets(PSL’s), then play your home games in an open air stadium again(instead of say having a dome or retract roof so there could be things called Super Bowls in our city, just like in Detroit, Indy, St. Louis and Minneapolis)and then having the team that left, the Ravens share in a piece of your team’s revenue.
That’s the team that would hire a jets ex-coach.....
Oh no, not Cris “The Giggler” Collinsworth!
No surprise, although without reading the thread, I know many will be upset by this.
Barring major injuries, the winner of the third meeting between the Eagles and Giants should go to the Super Bowl.
The Cardinals????WTF???
I'm pretty sure that is not true.
Regardless, I can't stand him as an announcer!
A testament to the coming of age of one Lawrence Darnell Fitzgerald Jr. Towards the latter part of the season and throughout the post season, he may have been the best player in football.
There's not a great many players that you can watch torch your team, and still be enthralled. Walter Payton could do it. Barry Sanders could do it. Brian Urlacher at times could do it. Larry Fitzgerald has now done that.
Even though I think that cost the Giants the Super Bowl, I actually stood up and clapped for him. That was one of the gutsiest performances I ever saw.
I was forever grateful LT was on the Giants. He blew the league up for a good 6 years.
Sanders was the most amazing athlete I ever watched. Period. I heard him interiewed on Sirius the other day. He wanted to keep playing. He just couldn't take anymore losing seasons with the Lions. The NFL should have stepped in and done the right thing-make a back room deal to get him on a contender for fair value.
