The opening of this season will be the changing of the guard. On April 20, the Red Sox trotted out their prize rookie Ted Williams. Ten days later Lou Gehrig will play his last game.
I didn't notice anything in the Times about Williams. (Doesn't mean it wasn't there, but I wasn't looking for it so if it was there I missed it.) But, believe me, Gehrig taking himself out of the lineup will be a big story. When the reason for it becomes known in June it will be a huge story. It seems Lou was kind of popular around N.Y.
