Knowing as many military dog handlers and their animals, I know this probably isn't the "bravest dog in the world", but I thought it was a really sweet but sad story. Besides, Boxers are my breed, so I had to post it ;)

I also thought it was very sweet that the Olivo family stuck with the dogs until the police came. Hopefully the police found a home for the surviving dog.

God created no creature more noble, more honorable, more loyal than a dog. Dog is, after all, GOD spelled backwards. :)

The site where the dogs came to grief is hard by the Goethals Bridge and near the New York Container Terminal at Howland Hook.
Kiawana Rich is a news reporter for the Advance. She may be reached at rich@siadvance.com. "...came to grief...," "...is hard by...?" Looks like Kiawana actually read those books the 19th Century literature professor assigned in college. Good for her! A journalist could do worse...
Thanks for posting this touching article.

So much for “Animal CARE and Control”. Jerks.
As to bravest, I’d say it’s pretty up there. As with the United 93 people, this dog didn’t know he could get into this situation, wasn’t trained for it, and required true grit.
