looking for 7.62X39, rest I need is rimfire or shotgun ammo which is still plentiful.
It is definitely hard to get hold of .223 right now. Even online they are just about out of cases. Well, you can find steel jacketed, but I don’t care for them.
Here in far west Texas the 7.62x39 is fairly easy to find. .223 though is an altogether different animal.
At my local Cabelas they had plenty of .223 in 20rd boxes and even a couple of 500rd dry boxes for $250.00, but not a single rd of 7.62.
Seems like we are in the same predicament, but in reverse.
I wonder if ammo prices will ever drop back down to what we're used to.
It’s unbelievable that the goverment thinks it has any right to tell anyone how many bullets their gun can hold. It’s all a way to keep the populace at a disadvantage from our overlords.
Using the LEO/government argument - if you don’t have anything to hide, why fear us being armed?
The Constitution affirms our liberty (4th Amendment) and our security (2nd Amendment). That’s what the anti-gun nuts don’t like.
Not here. There’s no 22LR on the shelf anywhere within driving distance. Nor is there any shotgun ammo except trap and light bird shot.
Reloading isn’t any better. Primers do not exist, powder almost does not exist, and bullets are hard to find but do come and go.
Essentially, you can’t shoot because you don’t know if it is possible to replace what you use and even if you could the next batch might cost more than you are willing to pay.
I’m of the mind that some smart folks have taken the lessons learned from the electrical shortage in California five years ago...and applied the business principal to ammo. If they act like they don’t have the ammo...then they can get a short supply of it...you are probably willing to pay ten to twenty percent more for the ammo. It wouldn’t take a massive effort to get a dozen manufacturers to bring manufacture down a notch....make more money for less ammo.
I don’t think this is an artificial shortage. It would not be smart business. A shortage of ammunition will put a halt to gun sales. Who will spend hundreds of dollars to buy a firearm he/she cannot shoot?
Down here in MS a large quantity has been recently delivered, Russian or S&B mainly. The high demand ammo is kept behind the counter. As the clerk told me, “If you do not order in perfect English, it is not available.” 7.62X39 was actually almost down to pre Obama prices @$5.29 a box of FMJ or HP.

7.62x39 is very hard to find right now, i was lucky yesterday and found 11 boxes for a good price, 9.00 a box/20, and i bought them all because last time i was looking for it, it was no where to be found
in the good ole days 7.62x39 was $2/20
yeah, my term, “good price” was relative.... two weeks ago I paid $18.00 for a box of 20 so $9 was a steal. relatively. :)
Ammo at Wal-Mart is non-existant here. Sells out daily within minutes of delivery.
Cabelas is a mad house trying to get ammo.
It’s like Cabbage Patch doll days.
I'm not surprised by this at all. If you want to buy ammo online through CMP, you not only need to show membership in an affiliated gun club, but also a scan of your passport or birth certificate.
They absolutely will not not sell to anyone who cannot prove citizenship.
