It is time Don Rickles gets his due for his immense contribution to American entertainment. Donald Jay, a.k.a Don Rickles, the worlds most loved outrageous comic actor and author, will be awarded with the Legend Award at The 2009 TV Land Awards. The announcement was made by Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land, on 31st of March. The most popular candidates of Legend Award are entertainers who have wooed the common public for generations with their ground breaking performances.
Don Rickles truly deserves this award. The The 2009 TV Land Awards will be held at Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City and the stalwart of comedy will receive his award on 19th of April. With his characteristic humor Don Rickles commented that he felt honored because at last TV Land has finally woken up and selected him to be the recipient of the award. The previous recipients of the award include Cheers, The Carol Burnett Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Garry Marshall, and more of their likes.
As Don Rickles prepares himself to receive the award, praises are pouring from all corners. Larry Jones has even commented that Don Rickles is a national treasure whose comedy transcends generations. Most of his fans consider him to be the pioneer of the art that he pursued with natural talent. Even those who are not his die hard fans feel it hard to ignore Rickles quick wit and sarcasm.
Don Rickles key to fame was his insult style of comedy. Though scathing in nature, they attracted the attention of many.

He was great as “Crapgame” in “Kelly’s Heros” too. And he had a small part as the hotel manager in “Casino,” as did Alan King.

Caught him in Vegas. If you were sitting up front you were fair game. What they don’t often show you on TV is the champagne he sends to the table of the folks he’s just insulted.
