A series of pitbull attacks have residents on edge in the Paradise Mountain community, east of Valley Center.
Over the past two months the pitbulls have killed two other dogs and injured two horses.
Some homeowners are so concerned they're now carrying guns to protect themselves.
Jan Hansen is one of the worried homeowners. He says the pitbulls mauled Spike, his miniature horse.
"There was one black pitbull on his face, just hanging on his face. The dogs just came in and overpowered him," said Hansen.
Spike barely survived the attack.
Hansen had to use his truck to run the vicious dogs off his property.
His wife Robin thinks the dogs live on the nearby San Pasqual Indian Reservation.
Animal control officers say they don't have the authority to try and catch the pitbulls on tribal land.
The entire community is worried the dogs will strike again.
"It's terrifying, they just appear out of nowhere. There's no warning," said Robin Hansen.
Tribal leaders now say they will work with animal control to catch the pitbulls by setting traps on the reservation.
"They promised us they would take care of it, they would look into it and they would find those dogs," said Robin Hansen.

Two words: target practice.
If people are having trouble with strays bothering the stock, why don’t they use the 3S rule?
But noooooooooo. They have to moan about the mean old pit bulls running around, go whining to the whole world.
Strays threatening/biting stock/people should be shot, no matter what breed they are.
That way, people who are responsible owners who control their large protective dogs can continue to enjoy them, whatever breed.
