Rocky Hill was described as a monster on guitar, though over four decades he could be a difficult creature to find. His career dated back to the 1960s when he was a hotshot player with blue hair joined on bass by his brother Dusty in a psychedelic rock band. That a Google search on Rocky Hill turns out dozens of entries on a town in Connecticut and nearly nothing on the guitarist is testament to how good a musician can be without ever finding his rewards.
Hill died Friday at his Houston-area home; he was 62. A statement claimed he died of undisclosed complications of a medical condition.

Sad news - loves good blues guitar.
He was not in ZZ Top, however.
Dusty Hill (brother of Rocky) is the bassist and Rocky was never in the band.
Dusty
Rocky Hill is the brother of ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill.

They just announced summer joint tour dates with Aerosmith.
Dusty Hill was in ZZ Top. No mention of Rocky Hill.
Houston guitarist Rocky Hill dies at 62
Wow, that sucks. But I gotta say; I’ve been a huge ZZ Top fan for 20 years and saw them live during college; I’ve never heard of Rocky Hill. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Frank Beard - that’s ZZ Top.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Texas Liver Coalition.
Yeah, I heard he was an alcoholic and developed cirrosis (sp?).
Rocky has a few CDs out. I have his CD “Midnight Creepers” and the guy is indeed a guitar monster.
He wasn’t in ZZ Top (he was in American Blues which later merged with Billy Gibbons’ ZZ Top), but he did play with a number of famous bluesmen in the 1960s

Stubling thru the parking lot in Heaven’s invisible 7-11!
Hmm. Was just thinking today that, though I’m not a fan, the ZZ guy could really play the guitar.
Worlds apart in music style but George Strait’s brother Buddy was found dead in a San Antonio motel last Friday.

Rocky Hill hopes to find a smooth patch on his rocky road

Texans have a sense of humor. In Del Rio we had Dusty, Rocky, and Sandy Hill...just about the same ages as Dusty from ZZ Top and his brother.
