"The Mirror jumped on the story, reporting that while Ms. Boyle thought she "looked like a garage" on TV, she received a standing ovation when she showed up at her local church.
Other sources write that as a child, Ms. Boyle was the target of bullies because of a disability. But, with her newfound fame, she is getting the last laugh."
Wow is right! That made me tear-up big time.
Just amazing! Thanks for posting that!

She stood there and took the cruel remarks, the audience snickers, then sang them all into embarrassment. The audience was both mortified at their own first impression, and then thrilled by a well-performed and perfectly chosen song.
Thus, the magic of music, it’s not a fashion show.... sometimes the homely fat girl sings and you just have to cry. This happens, and it reveals the true power of music.
I was particularly touched by the look of addled love and delight on Simon’s face. So nice to read that his people are already making her rich. God bless her!—in five minutes her life was changed forever, and she has been paid back for all the years of loneliness and frustration. What a fairy tale.
I like Cowell’s “Britain’s Got Talent” show much better than American Idol. Idol focuses only on pop singing, while BGT showcases all sorts of talents, from dog tricks to dancing to juggling to strippers to magnificent singers like this. I’m often touched by the stories of the poverty-stricken conditions in which the contestants nurtured their abilities. Hayley Westenra was a contestant on BGT, was she not? and there were some dear, beautiful little children last year, a lad who sang “Pie Jesu” with the most piercing clarity and a sensational Welsh choir.
Reminds me of Paul Potts!
What a surprise! I never would have dreamed she had a voice like that...simply awesome. That was beautiful. Simon is a twerp and the look on his face is priceless when she starts singing. Cant judge a book by its cover.
The NY Post has a story titled, WHY IS NO ONE SUSPICIOUS OF SIMON COWELL’S LATEST CREATION?, and frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised it the suggestion is true. Go back and listen to Cowell’s comments after Boyle’s performance; he says something to the effect that he knew when she walked out we were all in for a special treat. Of course the audience and his fellow judges laughed, apparently convinced his comments were made in jest. I submit it’s entirely possible they were not.
