Caution!!

Tree squirrels are considered game animals in most states, there is a bag limit as well as a season. Most states don’t allow air rifles to hunt game animals.

The poster of the comment I was replying to said that the town was making people get rid of the squirrels. I would assume they had the permission of the fish and game dept. of whatever state he is in. I am 67 years old, have been hunting since I was 12,I don’t need some do gooder telling me what can or can’t be done regarding game animals. BTW, some states do allow air rifles for hunting squirrels.

Oregon - center fire cartridges for most game but .22 & air guns OK for squirrels. There is a season and lots of folks hunt them for sport and to give the dogs some joy. I don't know the limit. Seasons & limits don't necessarily apply for pest animals.

Most other varmints aren't game and can be blasted at will with whatever ya got, I believe. AKs, ARs, Mini-14s, of course 10-22s and most any other hi cap are popular weapons on the sage rat hunts.
