These stories always bring out the people who just love their Pit Bulls. That’s cool but 5 years in prison when your dog attacks is what the law should read. No matter what the breed.

Any facts in your reply? You accuse me of an emotional investment and then tell me a “maybe it might have been “ story about a Rottie when I have already said I have known good and BAD,BAD,BAD rotties. now I have an emotional investment? I have experience. I have no emotional investment in any certain breed. I have a huge emotional investment in all breeds. I just don’t tar each one with the same brush. I adore my dog. If she injures a person she will be put down on the spot. But she will not be put down because someone sees her and is afraid of her. BTW my dog is now a 12 lb. Rat Terrier. My last dog was an 180 lb Caucasian Ovcharka. That breed is one of the most aggressive. Much bigger and far more capable of harm than a pit. I got him to kill a mountain lion that was killing my goats. I know about aggressive breeds. My Bruce, the Ovcharka, never harmed anything, yet 2 Glen of Imaal terriers almost killed our local drug sniffing law enforcement dog.

This year....

"Why aren't the stories of the 3 week old baby killed by a husky in Bourbonnais, Illinois, the 3 year old killed by a Rottweiler in Ft. Worth Texas, the 4 year old killed by a Rottweiler in Chicago, IL, the 8 year old killed by the 100 pound mixed breed, the 2 week old killed by a Chow in Mesa, AZ, the 38 year old man killed by two bull mastiffs in Rancho Mirage, the 3 year old killed by a husky in Wayne County, GA, being plastered all over the place?"

If you are not responsible enough to own one of these then you shouldn’t own one.

Who's gonna make this decision? Government? State? Neighbors?

Actually, they’re not stupid. They’re backed up by either absolute #s (meaningless, actually) OR general % of the dog type in question.

Although I’m sure many dogs are mistakenly called “pit bulls” (which is prime reason I’m against banning any dogs), there is still little denying that tons of attacks (as opposed to BITES, which is the real difference also) are at the mouths of pit-bull terrier types (not breed - this is a whole type of dog, like sighthounds aka greyhounds). The real problem with PBTs is they tend to latch on and not “let it go”, as most terriers are wont to do. Thus, they do more damage than most others, who bite and are done with it, rather than hanging on as if their own lives depended on it.

Also, grooming or vetting is a different story from general living situations. Few cats “attack” for no reason (although many have questionable temperaments and will lash out) - in your case, you’re doing something to it that is unnatural and they naturally fight back. Just walking through a neighborhood, though - how many cats have attacked you, or even just swiped you once?

...all three were recovered by animal control and impounded for observation...

Exactly what are they observing? Looking for tail wags that say "this is a good doggie who was frightened by the baaaad victims"?

Any animal which attacks a human except in self defense when being abused has to be immediately euthanized. Humanely if possible, by any other means if necessary.

Counter Morter chooses to communicate in a sort of angry, repetitive haiku...Nearly impossible to understand unless you've been reading him(her?) awhile.

Pretty sure he’s a guy and he *does* have a genuine problem practically in his backyard.

I have researched all the applicable local and federal laws in his area but his LEOs don’t give a flying leap.

It annoys me no end that people who *allegedly* can’t afford to feed and house themselves somehow find money to puppymill their @sses off.

It is cruel to the dogs, a ripoff off of the welfare system and a potential hazard to Counter Morter.

As far as his last post goes, I *think* he’s trying to communicate with me in hieroglyphs....:)

Whatever the case, I hope very much that his particular situation gets resolved, both for his sake and the dogs living in that “hump and whelp” Hell.

[and everyone that’s paying the taxes that let these cruds get away with welfare fraud]

Angry Haiku I can take.
If he goes all Sanskrit or Coptic on me, I’m at a loss....:)

[and ~why~ did I choose an amphibious user name when I could’ve had something like “Long Elegant Legs”?!?]

I've heard a lot about his situation, and either the LEOs in his area are the most useless, unresponive, possibly corrupt idiots in the country, or he's slightly overstating some aspects of his problem.

I have not heard of a person killed by a Yorkie or ferret (though possible some have). But I have read of numerous persons killed or severely mauled by pit bulls.

[but maybe we could ask him to post photos, just to be sure. were it me, I’d have no problems doing so]

Just read your page.
You’re one dog-savvy gal.

I grew up with Dobermans and spent *much* time obedience training them.
They loved it.
When they mastered *that*, I started in with silly stuff, like playing dead, jumping hurdles, giving alternate paws in increasingly rapid succession, “hide and seek”, soccer, etc etc etc.

When we weren’t playing, they had their “jobs” of guarding the yard.

Dobermans are so smart that they get bored and frustrated very easily.

I had quite a few rescues who had obsessively chewed their paws and legs or sucked their flanks out of sheer boredom.

Within 30 days, I made sure they were “gainfully employed”.

Best breed I ever owned.

[and here I am now with primitive, barely domesticated “jackals” who either can’t or won’t learn one single, lousy, simple thing...oh, how I look forward to having a Doberman again]...:))
