Well, I agree that there's plenty of disagreement, but I would say that as long as it's on philosophical points, political points, etc. it helps rather than hurts.

Getting personal and nasty, not so helpful.

But I LOVE the fact that there are disparate opinions on FR, and that they are (within wide bounds) tolerated and discussed.

If I wanted an echo chamber for my own opinions, there are plenty of other forums for that.

FreeRepublic is the best, in part because it has room for arguments among reasonable people who differ.
