Tails of the City: Bonded cat-dog duo seeks new home!

Frieda, a two-year old female Chihuahua, and Morgana, a nine-month old female tabby mix, huddled together in a purple backpack last week after they were surrendered to the Marin Humane Society (MHS). The unlikely pair are victims of the shaky economic times; Frieda and Morgana's owner recently lost her home as a result of the financial crisis. "Frieda and Morgana are best friends, so we want to find them a home where they can be together," says MHS spokesperson Carrie Harrington. "Bonded pairs of the same species are not unusual. But adopting an already bonded cat-dog pair is rare — and very special."

Lori.. these two look like they would fit right into your abode!

Oh, what sweet furbabies! I would love to have them. Don't know how Chachi and Sissy would feel about it, but it doesn't matter - the ordinance here is two dogs only (I think)...otherwise "they" consider you are running a kennel.

I hope they find a good home. You know, I don't care if I lost my home or not, my two little dogs would be with me. If I were living under and underpass, they would STILL be with me sharing whatever I had, no matter what. I would never give up my dogs, ever.

Some people actually CAN’T pay the bills. They bought/spent responsibly, well within their means, and then lost steady jobs and couldn’t find new ones because OTHER people’s financial irresponsibility has wrecked the economy. Please make sure you know the specifics of someone’s situation before you accuse them of irresponsibility. You may be next . . .

I would gladly give them a home if they were closer. I have a sneaky feeling they will do just fine.

Without a doubt!

Thank you, GovernmentShrinker. I appreciate your post. I had planned to post something after I finished reading the current thread comments, thought I wasn’t completely sure what to say. I was also worried about being flamed because so many here look down on those who lose their homes, have financial difficulty.

I have a friend who has a low paying job, takes care of her mom, both have health problems. They are not on any type of public assistance. They have not lived extravagantly or run up credit card debt. But no matter what happens, they can’t seem to catch a break. We have helped out a lot, but we’re pretty much tapped out as well. I am worried they will lose their home, and their pets— including one cat who alerted them to a fire that started in their home and saved their lives.

So, anyway, when I read this story, I kind of teared up thinking about them. And then I read the comments from Organic Panic and felt even worse.

Is that what we are going to do with the Club Gitmo gang when they come to a neighborhood near you?

I agree with you. I have been hammered hard by the Dodd/Frank catastrophe! and now I get to bail out the unions, mortgage flippers, etc.

BTW...I am not sympathetic to people who ‘can’t afford to keep my pets cause I have to move”...I would understand if they were very ill or incapacitated and could not care for the animals...but I would move to a trailor park or dump before I give up my pupster. But I will reserve my judgmental attitude in case they have to move in with relatives.

In Atlanta and in some other cities there is an organization (Paws, I believe) who helps people with vet bills, food and foster care for their pets if they have aids or some such serious illness cause the pet is so important to their recovery. A beautiful idea!
