Vanity: Reading Free Republic on iPhone

Do my fellow iPhone owners have the secret for happy FR reading while out and about? I would like some kind of formatting secret or app that would allow me to see the entire column of text at a comfortable size on Free Republic in my view at once so as not to necessitate scrolling left and right to see the complete lines.

Please help if you can.

I am going to try this now, thanks. Hope it works.

Just saw that this same problem exists on other mobile phones as well — the LG VU for example.

not possible. You get a “PAGE VIEW” and that’s it.
You drag to magnify, then you must scroll left and right. It’s the price you pay for having a small screen.

OK, it took forever to get it done, but it works now!! This makes me a very happy camper!

Here is how I did it. The website in post #10 is the key. I signed up for that forum and then hit the link in #10 again.

The guy on that thread has some code to copy and make into a bookmark on your computer’s safari browser. For some reason, my bookmarks are NOT syncing and I give up trying to find out why because they are supposed to, through Mobile Me, and they are not. But that is beside the point for this. If you can sync your bookmarks, do so and get that code as one of your iPhone bookmarks. It needs to be in ONE solid line.

But you can also create a bookmark on your iPhone Safari browser by EDITING one that is already there (that you do not really need).

First, email the code IN ONE LINE to yourself. Then copy it (ohhh, you MIGHT have to have a jailbroken iPhone for this...) . Or else you will have to type it in yourself.

When you are at your bookmark list on the iPhone, hit EDIT. Simply hit paste over the web address part, and give it a name (Text Enlarger, for example).

Now that this code is one of your iPhone bookmarks, go to FR on your iPhone, and click on the text enlarger bookmark. Give it a second or click twice and voila! Not only is the text bigger, but you do NOT have to scroll left and right to read FR perfectly!!

By the way, I changed the 18 to a 24 for even better text viewing on FR.

Everyone should do this if they read on their phones.

not possible.

Um, yeah! You don't have to pay the price, bro! See my previous post. You have to try this. Now the font is big and I can read with no left and right scrolling!

Actually, FR does allow us to do it properly using html. But, I think you mean automatically insert a quote when clicking on reply?

If you don't know the html to do this, post back, or start a new thread, and millions will happy to help. :)

Or, go to this FR thread The 2008 HTML Cheat Sheet

Or, go to Webmonkey's HTML Cheatsheet

Hav fun and Good luck!

Good to know. I don’t have an iPhone, but I do have the iPhone/Xcode development environment on my Mac. I had to bring up the iPhone simulator to see what you were talking about. It was only then that I realized that iPhone’s Safari doesn’t give you access to font size. Then I started searching.

Congratulations on improving your iPhone.

If the Opera Mini web browser is available for iPhone, try it:

http://www.opera.com/mini/

In mobile view, the page is formatted to fit on your screen without sliding back and forth. Also, it’s very fast.
