Wildlife officials will remove as many as 200 feral cats that prey on seabirds and other critters on San Nicolas Island. The project is expected to take as long as two years. It will involve using live traps, padded leg traps and tracking dogs to catch the non-native cats.

Jane Hendron, a spokeswoman for U.S. Fish & Wildlife office in Carlsbad, says healthy cats could go up for adoption, but those deemed sick will be euthanized.

It must take great intellect to want to kill the most successful species at survival besides the rat. Plague, anyone?

Cats are proven survivors while experts have proven themselves idiots.

Keep your youthful enthusiasm.

But isn’t that actually the 2nd version, Daffy? Looks like the new and improved Stretchy-Catz in your ad.

Here we go with ignorant stupid people who want to kill cats. Playing God.

They need to trap them, FIX them, feed them and let them have the life that was intended ...by the Real God. I can't stand the ignorance!!!!!

I’ve never understood these Darwinists one day, “Man will save the earth” the next day folks. Let the cats be. If the seabirds can’t adapt, they’ll be tasty snacks.

“Oh, but the cats are feral. They aren’t supposed to be there.” Says who? Don’t the Darwinists think we’re just the same as a rat, a dog, or a cat? If we put cats on an island, how is that any different from any other symbiotic relationship? Survival of the fittest, baby. Evolution is amoral. Who are you, oh enlightened biologist, to declare your view of the world as better than the one unfolding before your eyes?

If birds are dumb enough to STAY on an island with 200 cats, and they don’t fly away, they deserve to be eaten!

If the feral cats are older than 3 months you will never domesticate them.

At the shelter I volunteer we have domesticated quite a few older feral cats. It takes time but they can be worked with.

If the feral cats are older than 3 months you will never domesticate them. The best cat I ever had was a wild one I caught as a small kitten and raised and trained. But it was about 3 months when I caught it. After that...sorry...but it just will not domesticate.

Wrong. We caught a feral cat. It's tail had been broken-off sometime before. Fought like blazes when we boxed it. The vet esimated it to be 5 years old. It became pretty tame and was a tough old lady. Was 27 when she got run over.

Another stupid move. The cats are already there for 50 years at least and seem to be doing fine.

The impetus behind this is probably some greenies who are horried that the ferals are hunting our "feathered friends".

That image is from “The Goodies”! I used to love watching that BritCom when I was a kid. I remember the episode depicted in that image you posted well.

We have one animal shelter cat & one feral cat that took up residence here about 4 years ago. The feral cat saw that we already had a cat & figured we might be receptive to one more. The feral is a black male, we were finally able to cage him and have him neutered. He’s only friendly when dinner is being served, the rest of the time he’s reluctant to let you near him. Just this AM there were two dead mice neatly lined up on our back deck near the door. The cats just want us to know they’re on the job, ever vigilant.
