Andrew Gallo, the man behind the wheel of the van that killed Nick Adenhart and two others, has been charged with three counts of murder.
He faces a maximum sentence of 55 years to life.
In addition to murder charges, Gallo is charged with driving under the influence and causing bodily injury, driving with a blood alcohol level above .08% and causing bodily injury, and fleeing the scene.
The Orange County D.A. says Gallo's blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.
Gallo was driving on a suspended license because of a prior DUI. He fled the scene and was eventually arrested.
Game starts at 7pm PT / 10pm ET
Fervent prayers to Nick's parents and friends...
Yes, he deserves the max but so does everybody else in the same situation, unfortunately they don’t usually get it. there was a celebrety among his victims so his penalty will probably be more.
I similar accident happened in the town I grew up in a couple of years ago. The drunk driver killed 5, 3 of which were under the age of 10. That man only received 43 years, and it was Ohio which has very tough DUI laws.
You may have a point with the celebrity status bringing more heat on this case. But, I won't lose any sleep over this guys "mistreatment"
There is no justice in the world if they don’t slap the maximum on this scumbag.
Good.
Of course it's relevant.
I've looked and I can't tell. I doubt that anyone, even in California, wouldn't have been deported after the second DUI. But, I could just be naive.
One of my neighbors, a Canadian national on a work visa, was deported after he had one DUI crash. He apparently severely injured two in his accident.
This is California so most likely he’ll get off on some technicality and will be driving drunk again in no time at all.
The Soviet-era Bulgarian communists had a good law. The first DUI you got a warning; the second DUI you were executed.
Ouch. That will hurt. I know Norway has some tough DUI legislation (not as tough as the Bulgarian, granted). First offense is a fine of 30,000 NOK (about $5K US), a month of jail with hard labor and a one year suspension of your license. Your second DUI offense is 6-12 months in jail and you lose your license forever, and they mean FOREVER.
I hope you are right but I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ve seen the mugshots of this Andrew Gallo and he looks like he might be a minority (maybe hispanic?). If so, then the compassionate hearts of the California jurors will simply melt when they see him in the docket. They will feel sorry for him, agonize over their deliberations and very likely find some reason to not convict, like they did with OJ and all the rest.
It was heartbreaking watching last night's game between the Angels and the Red Socks, but the evening was a lovely tribute to Nick, and the other two victims were not forgotten.
