Vanity: What has happened to Hotmail?
04/09/09 | Self

Posted on 04/09/2009 10:15:59 PM PDT by Chief Engineer

My wife has been trying to sign into her Hotmail account and it takes her to a "Windows Live Mail signup page.

I tried to get into mine with the same result.

Anybody know what MSN is up to?

Mine is fine too, but it does ask you to sign in to Windows Live.

Something they’re doing. I use Thunderbird for my Hotmail, and it’s given me about 8 cannot retrieve error messages so far this evening. Something about user name error.

Live has made my life a living hell for the past two weeks. Stay away from it. Like the moron that I am, I downloaded the new IE. It erased all my saved passwords. I tried to sign in to Messenger and Hotmail but couldn't remember what the heck my password was. Of course, they were sending my "forgot password" emails to my Hotmail so I could sign in. UNFORTUNATELY...Doh!

So, I opened a new Live mail account and downloaded the new messenger. Big mistake! Big, big mistake. I've deleted all the Live stuff now. I do miss messenger for talking to my kids but oh well...Live likes to be the obnoxious friend most of us never had.

From what I hear it is systemwide and someone had an accident and cut some fiberoptic cables or something. Not sure how long it’ll be down.

There’s been a sabotage of various communication fiber cables in the area. In some places, phone services are down; in others, networks have collapsed.

ChiComs or muslims, most likely.

Nah, just the typical tree-sitting, anarchist vandals trying to get back at their rich parents for making money and ruining mother earth.

Several months ago, this happened to me. Turned out that it didn’t resolve itself.

I finally downloaded the darn thing and I *love* it! My inbox is only a click away.

That’s the first time I’ve been happy to be pressured into something.

Just curious. What was it about Live that you didn’t like?

No accident. Vandals, terrorist or disgruntled union workers cut fiber optic cables in two different places, causing major outages in some areas.

Hi Marie. I found it very obnoxious. Many popups asking if I wanted a “tour”. I couldn’t make them go away. Although the messenger has THREE boxes to check for the computer to “remember” you email and password, it never did do it. I had to sign into messenger every time I left Explorer. Then, I had to sign in approximately five times each time because my name and/or password wasn’t right. That might be intentional on their part but it got very old. Finally, my computer slowed down a lot after I downloaded Live. I dumped it and everything is cool now. I really don’t appreciate my computer asking ME questions all the time. I prefer skin and bones programs. Live has way too many ‘bells and whistles” for me.
