Strange Food Combinations

I was sitting in the movie theatre eating popcorn and Milk Duds while watching the previews of upcoming attractions when my wife asked how I could combine two seemingly opposite food items. I told her that Milk Duds, when eaten simultaneously with popcorn, are very tasty. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

While waiting for the feature presentation I began to think of other strange food combinations that I have eaten through the years. Since childhood, I have dipped my potato chips into applesauce. Like Milk Duds and popcorn, the combination of the salt in the chips and sugar in the applesauce play well off of each other. I have always put ketchup on butter beans and now my children have now acquired a taste for their father’s strange legume-meets-tomato-condiment pairing.

I began to wonder what other people might eat in the way of strange food pairings, so I logged on to my Facebook page and posed the question: “What are the strange food combinations that you like to eat?”

Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches(dill hamburger slices).

Same here, except I make it with the sweet pickle slices. Try it that way sometime. Bet you'll like it better. I toast white bread, then put pats of butter on one side, Jiff on the other with the sweet pickle slices on top of the peanut butter. Learned it many years ago from my father. Really yummy!

I have been reading the posts and I think you are correct. LOL When I was pregnant with my first child, for some reason I craved salty and sweet togehter. I had never and, BTW have never since, eaten a pork rind, but for some reason I was almost addicted then and ate them daily dunked in Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup.
People used to ask wouldn’t you rather have ice cream and pickles?

It’s not a “combination” but it’s strange enough—when I was in the Phillipines I tried this:

when I was pregnant. Strawberries. Fudge pops.

Does your child have red hair and fudge poop?

If that gets you queasy, don't watch "bizarre foods", LOL!. Along those lines , canadians like mayo with their fries(and their burgers in place of ketchup). Couldn't stomach that Myself. But , to each his own

peanut butter and bacon on a bagel...mmmmm

I do almost the same thing, except I take white bread, put cold butter pats on one side, then put Jiff smooth peanut butter on the other side with Miracle Whip on top of that then add warm, moist crispy bacon on top of the Miracle Whip. Put it together, cut diagonally and eat. Pure gourmet heaven.

Good grief! That’s’ almost as bad as putting sugar on grits (those Alabamans don’t know nuthin!) ;o)

I put grape jelly in mine. I asked a waitress if she thought that was weird, she said,"Nope, she has two customers (mother and daughter) who come in, order pan cakes and put tar tar sauce on them".

However, for some reason my family doesn't talk to me for hours afterwords. I might get a phone call but in person conversations, never.

I'll have to try one of those peanut butter and onion sandwiches!

Your wife shouldn’t have any question at all about opposites tasting good if she’s every been pregnant! Pickles and ice cream is a real treat!

You would have gotten along with my Dad. He was a PB and Mayo eater. Sometimes with hot chilies.

Oh wow! I just posted that my daughter does that. She is the only person I know (knew?) that did that!

I used to do that, but haven't in a very long time (I've become lactose intolerant, so I haven't had a milk shake in decades).

My Dad will eat saltines with ice cream. And when I was little, I remember him putting sugar on sliced tomatoes.
