Strange Food Combinations

I was sitting in the movie theatre eating popcorn and Milk Duds while watching the previews of upcoming attractions when my wife asked how I could combine two seemingly opposite food items. I told her that Milk Duds, when eaten simultaneously with popcorn, are very tasty. Dont knock it until youve tried it.
While waiting for the feature presentation I began to think of other strange food combinations that I have eaten through the years. Since childhood, I have dipped my potato chips into applesauce. Like Milk Duds and popcorn, the combination of the salt in the chips and sugar in the applesauce play well off of each other. I have always put ketchup on butter beans and now my children have now acquired a taste for their fathers strange legume-meets-tomato-condiment pairing.
I began to wonder what other people might eat in the way of strange food pairings, so I logged on to my Facebook page and posed the question: What are the strange food combinations that you like to eat?

My late MIL would pour bacon grease on her pancakes and then put ketchup on them to cover the taste. She also liked gravy on pancakes.

Bananas and pnut butter are good, too. Mom used to make sour cream sandwiches and sprinkle with sugar.

Joe Dirt: no that can't be. That's not what it is.
Meteor Bert: Oh, afraid so. See that peanut? Dead giveaway.
Joe Dirt: Uhhh, no, that's a space peanut.
Meteor Bert: No, afraid not. That just a big ol' frozen chunk of poopy.

raisins or no?When first discovered, yes. But either way works. Slightly crispy is probably a little better than completely chewy, but I suspect that is a personal preference.

I must try your sandwich. I love nothing more than a plate of pancakes & sausage, smothered in peanut butter and maple syrup.

Bananas and pnut butter are good, too Elvis Presley is reputed to have liked peanut butter, banana, and bacon sandwiches, which were then fried (I think in a pan, as opposed to deep fat).

I always eat mayo AND ketchup on hamburgers. I really love the new steakburgers at Burger King though.

Here in the south, I do one of the most accursed things.. Salt, Pepper, and Butter on a Sweet Potato instead of marshmallow and brown sugar (which I cant stand). I do the same thing, but come Thanksgiving I have to do the candied yams. I boil them with skins on, cool them, take skins off, and slice them up in a pan with lots of butter, dark brown sugar, and a little orange juice. Continue to cook them, turning them until sauce has reduced and yams are coated. Really goody, good, good!

I like mayo with my fries! French fry sandwich with mayo- yum! Also mix mayo and ketchup on burgers.
I’ve seen some gross stuff on tv- nothing beats any kind of eyes being eaten and whole, fried guinea pigs in S. America.
I’ve tried chocolate covered ants. Wouldn’t recommend them.
Waste of chocolate.

so, you like fish sticks? I don't know. I've never had one in my mouth. GS gets it, but I'll be nice to Joe and not keep the joke going..
