Scoop: 'Fringe' beaming up Spock!

Look at J.J. Abrams using his fancy sci-fi connections.

After collaborating on his upcoming Star Trek reboot, Abrams has signed Leonard Nimoy to join the cast of his Fox baby, Fringe.

The 78-year-old Trek icon will play William Bell, Walter Bishop's former lab partner-turned-millionaire founder of Massive Dynamic.

"It was a delight to work with Mr. Nimoy on Star Trek," J.J. tells me. "The idea that he will play the mysterious, much-referenced William Bell is a thrill. I know I sound like a goofy fan boy, but I can't help it: Leonard is an icon of the genre and such a wonderful actor. To have him come on board Fringe is a mind-blowing honor."

That’s pretty cool....but will it be as good as Nimoy’s Tour de Force in Baffled ?

Seriously, how can anyone *not* love a tv movie with Spock playing a race car driver with psychic premonitions ala The Dead Zone?

(Groovy theme music, too!)

>>>Wow Nimoy is 78?! God Bless Him.

As you now see he has been around forever. Before Blockbuster goes out of business, browse their sci-fi section for the old Saturday morning serial “Zombies of the Stratosphere” and check out Nimoy in 1952 as an alien spaceman baddie. Allowing for wrinkles, he hasn’t changed in half a century.

That’s cool, and from what I’ve seen of Fringe, Walter Bishop is a great character. Whoever developed the script did a good job with the character, and the show did a good job of casting (John Noble made an interesting “crazy” in LOTR, too.)

I am going to meet him at Dragon Con this year!!!

Last year it was George Takei, this year it’s Leanard Nimoy.

I’m such a geek. Girl geek alert! Good grief. LOL

Walter Bishop is a GREAT character, I’m still trying to warm up to the blonde though. She’s rather stiff and boring, although attractive to the male audience I’m sure.

Am I the only one to see that this poster requires erasure of the center “fifth” finger in order to make it a Vulcan Salute? (I’d do it but I have no way to post it...)

Walter Bishop is a great character.

Yes, he's hilariously inappropriate. I love it.

Cool. I watched Fringe last week and really enjoyed it. Nimoy should add another whole dimension to the show.

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were born four days apart in the same year. Shatner on March 22nd, Nimoy on the 26th.

I’m right between them. Different year, though
