Obnoxious Music Suggestions Wanted
Freeper Kimmie7 | Today | Me

Posted on 04/04/2009 10:34:38 AM PDT by kimmie7

Okay guys, while I applaud the entrepreneurial (sp?) spirit of the young men down the street, while they wash cars for folks they keep their stereos going.

Surprise of all surprises, they never play a lovely concerto or opera. They play ghetto "music". All you can hear is bass and the occasional obscenity.

Because I am an old, um, severely un-tanned woman, I plan to play music as I wash the minivan, weed the flowerbed, walk to the mailbox, whatever...whenever they are playing their music. That's right folks - a regular Battle of the Bands!

Keeping in mind they would love much of the very "music" we hate...I'd like your suggestions to add to my boom box sitting on the front porch. Opera, Polka, what do you suggest? And to keep them interested I'll need a good variety.

Because these concerts will end when they realize they need to turn theirs down (and they will, I think. They don't seem to be bad kids...just kids) the selections will need to be cheap and easily obtained.

Dvorák’s “Song to the Moon” from Rusalka is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed.

Repeatedly run William Shatner's version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

I've also heard that the stuff put out by Barry Manilow is like garlic to vampires amongst the rap/rock set.

If you don’t feel like asking them to turn down their crap music, how about asking the police to do it for you? There are laws against public broadcast of obscenity.

UGH, now I’ll be singing that all day! And it was the Seekers version on the record that had Georgie Girl and Turn, Turn, Turn. Never heard the Cyrkle version, that I know of.

What happened to your phone? lol

Gilbert & Sullivan’s Greatest Hits — always worked for me. They can’t turn down their boom boxes and 10,000 watt car stereos fast enough. I think it actually freaks them out!

Wait, I ammend that, I didn't know this was them (I was thinking of a different band for some reason) but I really like what I've found so far (I'll have to listen to all his). My favorite at the moment is Shai Linne who seems a little more strong with rap than TobyMac. You could always play Lecrace's (riding with my top down) Listening to my Jesus muzik" Just listen to it, you'll understand what I'll mean it's perfect to gain their attention while in a car :D

You might try Slim Whitman's Indian Love Call.

It made the Martian's heads explode in the movie Mars Attacks!.

I made a mistake; it’s called Holiday for Strings-Strings only version. It’s on iTunes.

There’s always the Kookie Kumbaya Klassics:

We Are the World
I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing
It’s a Small World After All
Candy Man
Imagine/All You Need is Love

I guarantee they’ll drown themselves in their soap buckets. Big Caveat: You’ll probably have to listen to them yourself (I’d make plans to start the stereo and then leave the neighborhood.)

Because I am an old, um, severely un-tanned woman,

I have a concern that actually doing something like this will get you killed, because it will be interpreted as 'dissing' them.

If not that, it will at the very least cause your property's address to be circulated in 'da hood' as being 'a honkie dat needs to be stole from'.

If I've read your situation wrongly or you simply don't care, there's nothing quite like German sea shanties done to a rock beat to pizz off a bunch of hood-rats.

Anything by Springsteen will do the trick. He sterilizes frogs at 200 yards.
