Bad for the Chargers. The Broncos have the potential to be a much better team in a few years.
They need to replace that gay horse on their helmets also.
Cutler grew up being a Bears fan as a kid and it is sort of dream for him to play there. Bears have a lot of roster holes to fill, but the Central division is weak right now and this might just give them an edge in their own division.
It may not pan out, but all in all, it is a good move for the Bears.
No, I never liked the Bears.
I agree.... the difference between Orton and Cutler is NOT two first round picks.... wow.
I was dissapointed that the Vikings showed so little interest. I think, I'm just worried about the status quo.
My Chiefs got Cassel and Mike Vrabel for a second round pick. What makes you think that isn't the going rate?
The Chiefs got Cassel and Mike Vrabel for one second round pick. If Cutler is worth two first rounders with his 17 and 20 record, what is Cassel worth with his 11 and 5?
For the Chiefs the problem with the Cassel trade isn’t what they got rid of to get him, it’s the cap hit of a franchised QB who isn’t as good as his salary. A franchised players makes the average of the top 5 salaries at his position, for a QB that’s a lot of money, Cassel was terrible under center all season, and the Chiefs don’t really have the rest of the talent necessary to run the shotgun spread that Cassel excelled in, and with top 5 QB salary tied up in Cassel they won’t have the cap space necessary to get the talent.
Assuming the Bears didn't mortgage too much of their future for Cutler, they could be in good shape. Personally, I think it's dangerous for a team to get into a bidding war for a player. The price always goes up higher than the player's value.
That’s really the problem for the Chiefs. They keep trading for quarterbacks when the rest of the pantry is bare. I’ll wait to see what happens with the Chiefs, but they seem to be mired in a mediocrity that they can’t break out of.
Interesting move for the Bears (plus they signed Orlando Pace). Cutler is probably an improvement on what they had before.
Pats got what they could. Franchising was their only chance to get anything for Cassel. Vrabel was slipping and they need not only to reduce cap charges but find room for younger players.
Very interesting, didn’t take long to make the deal.
Personally I think the Bears gave away too much.
Well written article too BTW.
It’s hard to get excited about that when Tavaris and Sage are all they have.
Oh Man! These Bears fans are gonna be insufferable - until they start to suck again. Then, as sure as winter will come again, they will turn on their own.
“They need to replace that gay horse on their helmets also.”
Which looks about the same as the gay dude on the Pats’ hats.
As far as Cutler goes - his princess attitude disqualifies him from anything great. Sorry if I insulted any princesses in the room!
Josh McDaniels - let the rebuilding begin! He's been here in NE long enough to know that Denver wasn't going anywhere with Cutler and his piss-poor attitude in the picture.
As a Bronco season ticket holder for over 30 years McDaniels/Bowlen had better step up to the plate with a winner after all this BS ... otherwise they can take my Bronco season tickets & stick them where the sun don't shine.
Man you got that right. I've always hated that stupid world-league looking uniform. All they had to do was modify the logo or something - the old uniforms rocked. It wasn't like their old uniforms were as bad as Tampa Bay's old ones.
