I was watching a Red Shoulder hawk one day and a squirrel charged out the limb, pulled out some tail feathers, did a U turn, and ran at the hawk again. the hawk got out of there fast. I have some pics, but blurry.
My guess is that the rabbit has a nest full of babies nearby.

Did you know rabbits can growl and scream? My pet rabbit once fended off a raccoon invading its hutch. Sounded like something from hell.
