If you go on all these newspaper and media sites you will see the question being asked "What are you going to be doing during the hour of dark?"
I found a great answer, read below.

will be sitting at home during that hour with all the lights on, on my cellphone calling the radio stations requesting Trace Atkins song, "Every Light In The House Is On" in honor of this special occasion. I will also be praying for the man who is in charge of climate control to send a thunderstorm thru downtown Nashville with a vivid lightning display.

I’m going to have family visiting, so I’m pretty sure at 8:30 EDT I’ll be cooking up a storm and watching our plasma TV.
With the lights on.

[Saturday at 8:30 EDT.]
It won’t even be dark in the Mountain and Pacific zones.

I intend to celebrate with a cold beer and as large a “carbon footprint” that I can create.
To: Patrick1
Well, shoot - that’s 1730 MST - the sun is still up and most of my lights will be off anyway.
I’ll probably be outside grilling a steak while enjoying a cold beer.
It’s still a wee bit on the cool side, so I may light a fire in the Chimenea - just to release a little more carbon into our environment!

Saturday at 8:30 EDT. Oh crap! I can't participate! It will be 5:30 and still daylight here at that time. Maybe I'll just turn all my lights ON to show my support for "Earth Hour".

I have a 1983 Monte Carlo SS, with no computer, emissions controls, or even a catalytic converter. It has a carburetor and burns fuel so inefficiently that another car could probably run off it’s exhaust gas.
I’ll be cruising around town in that during Earth Hour...and every light in my house will be on anyway, with the A/C set at 68, and maybe even a load of clothes in the dryer.
Take that, Mother Earth!

I'll have logs on the fire, a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other. If not finished yet, I'll be cleaning my guns. Maybe I'll have the plasma TV on too.

I thought I heard the Mayor of Phoenix (Flash Gordon) say it was 8:30PM our time. I could be wrong.
Anyway, we just bought new flood lights and plan on giving them a workout tomorrow night as well as using the self-cleaning feature on the oven while having every appliance, TV and light on!

Dark? I have 80 acres. Wonder if I can get the local FD to do a controlled burn to get rid of brush and weeds on about 2 acres? Hmmm.

There should be a total blackout in the cities.
That will allow the looters plenty of time to
liberate the items they deserve by being poor.
