An open letter to Bill O'Reilly
Vanity | 03/23/09 | Wil H

Posted on 03/23/2009 8:36:03 PM PDT by Wil H

Once again, I am amazed, and disappointed, by your naïveté and gullibility.

You opened your memo tonight with a vilification of AIG for it's "million dollar party".

It is clear to me that you are buying into the mainstream media propaganda and know nothing about that of which you speak.

And that's a shame.

Do you really think that AIG's management would take bailout money and go blow a million on a party?

Are you really that naive?

I don't work for AIG, I don't know anyone who does, and have no connection to the company but even I can figure out from the information available why they hosted the weekend event.

And you, if you have any intelligence, should have figured it out too.

The reported attendees at the luxury resort weekend were independent reps who got to hobnob with some of the senior management.

I would bet you anything you like that those reps had achieved previously set sales goals and were collecting on their already promised prize of a weekend with the company's top executives at a luxury resort. They typically call these events "The President's Club" but I have no idea if this was so in this particular case. Such events are standard elements of sales incentive programs and are BUILT INTO THE SALES BUDGET.

Independent reps are an extremely cost effective sales channel, they have little or no overhead (salary or office space costs) and receive commission only but they have divided loyalties as they may well offer competing products from other companies to their customer base.

Therefore, companies such as AIG put together incentive plans based on sales goals to develop loyalty and cultivate a close relationship with their top performers. These plans are part of the cost of doing business and are budgeted into the sales costs.

By gathering the top independent performers for a weekend, AIG gets to strengthen the loyalty ties and educate those performers on new revenue opportunities, thereby beating out the competition.

To cancel the event would have been a disaster; it would have put AIG in legal jeopardy for breach of contract, and would have destroyed the goodwill and fabric of a highly efficient sales channel.

But YOU choose to characterize the event, as the main stream media does, as an irresponsible and excessive celebration.

In doing so you display amazing gullibility and ignorance.

BTW, did you know that the reps that had EARNED their luxury weekend had nothing to do with AIG's financial woes?

AIG was in financial ruin because of the activities of their LONDON office whose derivative traders caused their massive losses. That has nothing to do with the US based insurance division.

But go ahead Bill, drag them through the mud anyway. It's what the dishonest state run media would want you to do.

I’d love to see BOR replaced in the 7p slot. Beck would be good. Even Cavuto.

BOR needs to retire

Sometimes I think he wears the populist mantle for entertainment value to relate to ‘the folks.’ Can’t wait to see the post-show review - I’m sure he’ll be very fair with his big ego. /sarc

Nice.
Sorry to interject like a broken record, but anytime O’Reilly is mentioned here, I have to remind anyone who doesn’t know, that Bill has repeatedly called the freerepublic.com a hate site.

You could really send a message by watching something else.

Good letter and I agree.

However, if you keep watching that clown, you’re going to go blind and hair will grow on the palms of your hands.

I couldn’t get past the fact that he said Obama was brilliant? Brilliant compared to what?

Bill is drinking Kool Aid when he should be eating M&M’s.

YOu feel better for that? I hope so, because otherwise it was a waste of electrons. O’Reilly doesn’t care. If you watch his show you know the routine. Towards the end he reads viewer comments. If they agree with his VP he applauds; if they don’t he insults.

I gave us BO because he’s hopeless. For the occasional nugget you gotta sit through a pile of crap...;’}

BOR is pathetic. He is so far up The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers’ arse that it makes me cringe...I particularly love how it is never Obama that is driving the leftist agenda, instead, it is San Fran Nan or Dingy Harry who Barry O has let commandeer the agenda from his centrist wishes...YEAH RIGHT!! The commy-in-chief is the ring leader of the leftist agenda. BOR needs to take a hike.

I haven’t been able to watch his show for several years. It’s all about BOR, all the time, and frankly, it’s boring.

This is the problem with a "populist" like Bill O'Reilly. He reacts with his gut instead of his mind. He undercuts the conservative cause when he says things like "both sides do it".

But he has no convictions. You can't have simultaneous positions supporting business and lower taxes while favoring a crack-down on global warming. He attracts the non-thinking middle of the roaders, who read little and are stimulated by what they see on TV.

It seems that a vast silent majority that listens to people like him and Hannity is not so much conservative as just wanting things to stay as they are.

We think they are on our side, but they will turn on a dime with a headline. They are on board with lynching AIG for the bonuses, but not bothered by the $230 billion AIG bailout.

Every once in awhile, though, you see a potential change in public opinion. Like the recent poll that nearly 60% of the public favors nuclear power. That is huge, because it can't co-exist with liberal brainwashing. What will it take for someone smart (besides Rush) to capture this emotion and move people permanently to our side?

Not to mention ... the brouhaha about a Wells Fargo event like this in Las Vegas ended up in cancellation of thousands of rooms ... empty rooms = laid off waiters/bartenders/custodians/housekeepers/clerks; loss of revenue to the city, etc., etc.

Thank you for your comments.

O’Reilly is a coward and a populist, he is NOT a conservative.

O’Reilly NEVER shows any conservative leadership, he simply tries to figure out where the mob is running, and then tries to get in front of the mob.

O’Reilly is a pompous a@@. Every once in a while I take a look and no change. He loves to hear himself talk and usually is so uninformed he looks foolish.

What Bill doesn’t mention is that the coronation cost nearly as much as those contracted bonuses did and our mall in D.C. didn’t get trashed.
