Gonzaga can beat North Carolina

Since a gritty little program from Eastern Washington emerged from the obscurity of the West Coast Conference a decade ago and started smacking around bigger programs from better conferences, we've been waiting for a matchup like this.

Since Gonzaga matured from the little engine that could, to that super engine that should, we've been waiting to see how it would react to a meeting in late March against North Carolina.

That time has come.

It's time for Gonzaga to win a game this big against a program this storied. It's time to step up and be the team it was supposed to be at the beginning of this season. Time to rise and realize its potential.

It's time for Gonzaga to play like the powerhouse it can be and not the Cinderella it used to be.

North Carolina, with all of its history and names and banners and prestige, is looming on Friday night. Carolina, a No. 1 seed, a loser only four times this season, is waiting for Gonzaga in Memphis.

As long as the winner of the North Carolina / Gonzaga game loses to Syracuse, I’m good.

I actually put Gonzaga going all the way to the championship in my bracket. They might be the toughest mid-major team I've ever seen.

And the tournament has clearly shown that the ACC wasn't nearly as tough this year as it usually is.

I am praying for this to happen.

Is anything more irritating this time of year than a smug Carolina fan?*

*that's a rhetorical question, the answer is a resounding NO!

My brackets would get all screwed up if they did!

I know zero about college hoops, and i’m leading the company pool! LMAO!

I don’t want you to lose in your brackets, of course.

But I AM hoping for Epic Fail.

I would never pull for them in any sport.

Not even curling or ultimate Frisbee.

I picked Memphis, Louisville, Gonzaga, Villanova in final 4, hope they beat UNC but also I’m big ACC fan. Go Ga Tech (next year).

I have the exact same Final Four you do!

To me, Memphis is pretty clearly the most talented and athletic team in the country, and they should take the whole thing. Of course, I thought that was the case last year as well, and they managed to choke away what should have been a fairly easy win.

Yes, a smug Duke fan. Actually at this point all 16 teams have played well to be where they are. Any team can beat any team. Gonzaga can certainly beat N.C. in one game.

That’s odd because it not common picks, but nice picks, hope we get it it right. Funny thing is my nephew who is away at school in FL picked the same final four as us. Everyone thinks he is my son because we are so much a like and now he picks the same final 4 as me. Can’t wait till Thursday, should be fun games to watch.
