The Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, has been launched in India.
Costing just 100,000 rupees ($1,979; £1,366), the Nano will now go on sale across India next month, with deliveries starting in July.
Tata hopes the 10 feet (3 metre) long, five-seater car will be cheap enough to encourage millions of Indians to trade up from their motorcycles.

Once the customizers are done with these cars, India will be full of bodacious Tatas.

I love how they highlight that "plastic adhesive replaces welding" is a feature... yea, that makes me feel real secure..a glued together car.

No air conditioning on standard models? Will you get a bucket that the driver can fill with ice on delux models?

I didn’t see anywhere in the article what the expected MPG would be.
Wheels look like they’re off a kids wagon.

Tata Nano appears to be more sensible than the Frenchies “SMART CAR”.
Looks like a great Haul behind for the RV. If parking is a problem, you can just take the TATA and put it in your BRIEFCASE and be on your way.

I’d feel safer in that mobile casket than in the Tata.

I had a friend in college who bought a Yugo brand new in 1980 for about $1,200. He put more than 200,000 miles on it over a 10-12 year period with virtually NO mechanical failures (I think he had to replace the alternator once and one water pump).
He changed the oil at recommended intervals and replaced the timing belt at 100,000 miles as a preventive measure.
It was still running strong when he gave it to a junkyard.
Mechanically it was quite a good car, but virtually every piece of its “plasticky” (with emphasis on “icky”) interior had failed, broken or faded to a chalky white color/texture. He was using vise grip pliers as window cranks and had to replace to door handles and latching mechanisms, and the seats, with ones from a 70s vintage Fiat. The dash panel and the air distribution vents for the heater had virtually disintegrated.

With a max speed of 43 it doesn’t beat walking by much.

In 1980, I bought, BRAND NEW, a Chevrolet CHEVETTE.
It was a piece of CRAP from day one.
Every 2-3 weeks it was back in the shop.
And, at 55,000... EVERY place that car could LEAK ... it DID!!!
