To be “mostly having fun tweaking” as you desribe
it, actually reveals a very mean and bitter hostility,
even augmented by your random and gleeful “LOLs” ...
But fear not, your obsession with demeaning and
mocking the Catholic Church comes through loud and
clear, and it’s speaks volumes about you, your
decency and character.
Civil theoretical and theological discussions are
informative, and I assume good will and respect
for another FReeper’s faith should go without saying.
Do you actually speak like this to people, Catholics
you encounter in your real life, or is this where you
vent all your deep and apparently tortured Catholic hostility ?
I can’t imagine being your neighbor or colleague.
Yes, I’m a Catholic .. and though my opinion doesn’t
matter a whit in your restricted world .. I find your
snarky remarks stunningly bigoted for a FReeper.

such Catholic mockery and degradation in
2009 and, moreover, here.
It would be like me standing in front of the
lovely Episcopal Church down the street, which
by the way has the most delightful habit-garbed
and devout sisters (and whose garden has a
statue of Blessed Mary) and yelling at one
of them:
“Repent, adhere to the Catholic Church’s beliefs
and do just as we do or you deserve ridicule and
derision!”
Lunacy. Our religious beliefs don’t come solely,
but mainly from our family upbringing and any
inherent prejudices therein. Some parents have
failed in guiding their children well, and their
children sadly bear that ignorance.
This is part of the description of that church:
“Important also is the celebration of the Communion
of Saints and their fellowship of prayer as reflected
in devotion to the Virgin Mary and our patron, St.
Michael the Archangel.”

There you will find a considerable number of longtime Freepers, all in good standing, who feel exactly as you do but who express their anti-Catholic disgust in slightly more subtle but nonetheless, extremely effective ways.
Try it. Instead of posting silly, vacuous vanities, you can dig up old stories about abusive priests, polygamous Popes, fraudulent bishops and murderous Inquisitors. What's more, you can post the same stories repeatedly so it becomes the gift which keeps on giving. You won't be disappointed.
Guaranteed to annoy Catholics and some will likely insult you for it and you can then complain to the Mods and have them banned!!

Especially during this holy season of Lent I want to go more deeply into these verses.
It's not all skittles and beer. We have a wonderful, intelligent, inquisitive, high-energy RCIA class in my parish. It's an amazing comfort to me. But sooner or later we should expect that the richness of the Church would be met with hostility We should count ourselves blessed that some of that hostility is directed at ourselves. Compared to what the great martyrs underwent, this is, after all, pretty small beer.
A worthy pursuit .. a blessed Lent to you.
I don’t care about the effect of the hostility on me. Hostility from those I do not respect is of no consequence to me.
However, I believe highlighting this hostility teaches us all—especially the lurkers—about the nature of the anti-Catholic bigot’s mission (and soul).
I’m a Southern Baptist and I appreciate and enjoy the posts about our Catholic brothers and sisters.
