The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at former U.S. President George W. Bush during a farewell visit to Baghdad has been sentenced by an Iraqi court to three years in prison.

The trial of Iraqi journalist Muntader al-Zaidi, who shot to fame after flinging his shoes at former President George Bush during a press conference last December in Baghdad, ended with a relatively light three-year sentence.

Fans of al-Zaidi reportedly swarmed the vicinity of the court-house, shouting slogans in his favor and decrying the Iraqi government. Several close family members called the prosecutors "sons of dogs."

The Prime Minister just wants to kick him once, through the gate, with a regular shoe. I believe it’s a wingtip.

I watched the video, and I am actually surprised that they didn’t shoot him on the spot. I’m sure they search the people going into press conferences like that.. but I don’t think that they would let that be their last line of defense.

At his sentencing he shouted, "Long live IRAQ."

Unless this guy is a Saddam supporter and loved living under tyranny, who does he think is responsible for freeing 25 million of his fellow citizens?

He must know that if he threw his shoes, in protest, at Saddam he would have been tortured, his family tortured and if lucky be counting virgins, with Allah, instead of facing at the most 3 years in prison, with the RIGHT TO APPEAL!!

He was a wiseass journalist, who thought the stunt would get him noticed and, maybe, land him a job with the likes Newsweek or the NY Times. Plus he thought it would be funny.

Maybe when he gets out of prison he can go on Letterman and yuk it up with him.

You laugh too hard, you cry.
