Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Grandparents are indeed a great help, but they do not substitute for the importance of a committed and married mother and father.

I am currently a parent with aspirations to grandparenthood one day. Although I could indeed in extremis imagine a stranger doing the things you propose, I’d feel much better about it if I got to know them first. There’s certainly no reason not to vet adoptive parents before finalising the arrangement.

Your post was self-contradictory. I’m sorry if pointing that out offended you.

So Levi will be reading the bed-time stories and comforting Tripp from his nightmares? When he isn’t on the North Slope for 6 months out of the year?

“Absent dad” clearly means something entirely different to you than it does to me.

So, by your definition of an absent dad (away for 6 months out of the year), I guess the children of all our deployed servicemen should be given away to 2 parent "on site" families. You are an extremely disturbed individual.

I stated that I would support my daughter and child if she persisted in obstinate defiance ...

And that would be your choice, your rightful choice, to make. It would equally be your rightful choice to reject her and throw her on the street to let others take care of her. God gave each individual free will and the bible as a wise guide on what to do with that free will. He and Jesus rely on the individual to seek in Them a beacon and to meet life's challenges using His word as a lamp. The bible is a very personal thing, and while fellowship is understood to be important, God and Jesus make it very clear that they don't count on "us" as a group to love their word; they count on YOU and ME to do it each in our own paths.

As I pointed out, the psalm "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" doesn't say "OUR" feet or "OUR" path, for a reason. It's because the only one YOU can make to follow God is YOU. Nobody else.

Free will confers, by the gift of God, dignity on every human, and the sign of true evil is the regime that tramples on individual dignity.

The male and female purse-lipped self-righteous Church Ladies on this thread, and I can think of no better term than "Church Ladies" to describe them, lower their own dignity when they presume to ignore the dignity of others no more flawed, though perhaps in different ways, than themselves.

I'm all for passing judgement on people and discriminating against them in my personal choices, in everything from who I hire or who I work for, to where I shop and and who I rent to.

I don't need a bunch of Church Ladies to do it for me and to shake their fingers in my nose when they think I'm discriminating too much or too little for their tastes.

I cannot believe some of the post here.....Less you have walked in her shoes do not be a judge....She would not let him take the Baby to his parents home because of the druggie mother....I would say she was doing the right thing...If he left her for that reason he is not much of a man....She is being a caring and good mother looking out for her baby.....She will find some one who will be apart of her life and the baby’s life when it is time....She has a wonderful family and all the help she needs...I would vote for Sarah Palin tomorrow if I could...I am sick and tired of individuals that want to accept RINO&s and not stick with conservatives like Sarah....If it had not been for her McCain would not have gotten near the votes he did...She has a wonderful family and extended family...Many could be so lucky..

Nice strawman—work hard on it?

Prospective fathers who know they will be gone half the year for an indefinite period should indeed think very hard whether they really are in a position to assume the role of father.

Can we take it as read that your insults and attempts to label me have no argumentative force except to diminish the cogency of your substantive points, such as they are, and dispense with them?

You behave like a smug self-righteous prig. My arguments are wholly rational, and my assessment of your self-righteousness equally rational.

Your strategy of grasping it as "insult" to deflect from argument is nothing new. The reality is that your behavior insults your own dignity as it presumes to usurp the personal dignity of others, and provides all the argument I need to, with considerable rational cause, to chide you for bad thinking on the issues of Palin's family.

Bravo! Well said!

These borderline personalities who are so quick to condemn others are often passionless and devoid of all humanity.

Thus they can stand and point fingers at the rest of us, who live life to the fullest; who love wildly and give generously; who laugh often and appreciate the beauties of the human condition; who always look for the best in everyone, and do not search fastidiously for the mote in the eyes of our brothers and sisters.

Could you please point out a couple of offending Church Lady posts for me? I’m not sure I can tell them when I see them.

I see. So you and your family have all been in the spotlight of national public media with the focus on moral failings within your family, and you have all had to field self-righteous, public proclamation of said moral failings and pronounced public scoldings from total strangers?

Really? Is that the kind of "undignified garbage" you've had heaved at you, that you know so much about?

Your statement is flatly self-contradictory. If my chiding the behaviour of Bristol Palin demeans me, then doesn’t your chiding me—with insult to boot demean your dignity?

Or do you hold a special license to correct others and uphold the norms you value?

So, you just proved my point. By your standards, if someone is in the military they shouldn't have children. You are a sanctimonious prig.

So your commitment to seeing the best evapourates at the first disagreement?

Some might call that borderline finger-pointing.

There’s judgment in plenty on both sides here. Let’s drop the false “nonjudgmentalism” then.

I take parenthood seriously enough to be willing to be called a sanctimonious prig by someone too irresponsible to parse the meaning of the sentence I wrote.

Calling me names is neither going to win the argument nor stop me.

Romney supporters are disgusting.

As if Mormons have never had any of these “family situations.”

Do you have a special “Romney supporter” decoder ring that allows you to identify them.

Or is any criticism of any member of the Palin family de facto evidence of a plot against Sarah Palin?
