Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Thank you for your kind words. It struck me the other day, and I’m glad I found a context to share it, and better a fellow who found it worthwhile. Thanks for your kind words.

Gosh, I think even the most pure and perfect family would be vilified here. It’s like some forget their own mistakes or never had any freedom to make mistakes.

And I think you have a rather romanticized view of reality. Or maybe you have no clue about reality.

Oh for goodness sakes give me a fuckin break. What world do you people live in? Hey, the good ole days weren’t all that good. This stuff happened back then, for good and bad.

I’d rather see more kids raised by a stable married couple that adopted them than by a single teenage parent. Obviously I can understand why anyone would have a problem with telling someone to give up her baby....if it was so easy and clearcut, there would be no point in bringing it up on FR.

We already had stigmatizing unwed motherhood. The blame was put on the women. Back then and now on this thread.

Fortunately, those not concerned with society or neigbors, took care of their own business. Regardless of what “society” accepts or rejects, most of us will continue to live as we’ve always done, as our ancestors did. Not relying on society or anyone else, the govt included, to fix anything.

The “morality of 1950” wasn’t all that moral.

Fortunately, I had parents who grew up in the 1920s and 1930s and an oldest brother who grew up during the 1940s and 1950s and early 60s. And those good old morality days weren’t all that good or moral.

Another great post and thank you for posting it.

I hope I never have one of my daughters come to me saying she’s pregnant. It’s not something I wish on anyone. However, it’s not the end of the world and it will all work out in the end. We’re family. And we take care of family.

I certainly couldn’t see taking the so called high road and giving away family. The so called “selfless” act of adoption isn’t all that “selfless” imo.

You will now surely be convinced that the Left holds no monopoly on sanctimonious; hypocritical behavior.
And you're being polite in describing many of the comments here as merely "freaky".

I didn’t think they did but I am surprised by the posts in this thread.

Some of the posts are freaky. Some are outright ludicrous.

It’s not easy and clear cut. It’s also not something new.

I have no issue with adoption if that is what the birth parents decide. I don’t think it’s some “selfless act of love” or the best thing parents, a mother, can do for their child. It may be the best thing that one parent/mom can do for the child but it certainly doesn’t mean the child will have a better life. There are no guarantees in life. And it doesn’t mean the mother did some selfless act.

I’d rather see chidren raised in a family that loves them regardless of whether they’re with the birth family or the family that adopts them. And there’s not guarantee that the adoptive married couple will stay married.

I sympathize with those unable to have their own kids. But it doesn’t make them better parents or more suitable for raising kids. Adoptive parents can be as screwed up as birth parents. We romanticize those who adopt. And we romanticize those who give their kids up for adoption.

Nonsense post. There has been many cogent, relevant posts on this thread. They just don’t agree with your opinion.

Nope. Ann Coulter had facts to back up her words. I’m still waiting to see actual facts posted. All I’m seeing is “feelings” and those ain’t facts. Coutler got the point across, and this glorification of single motherhood, from the high end class to the black ghetto class rings true.
Difference is, the high end or upper class aren’t using our tax dollars to raise their kids and the black, yes it’s mostly the blacks even though that’s not PC to say, are raising their kids on our money. And their culture has suffered.

The baby needs a loving family and it seems the Palin family is taking care of their own.
