The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

LOL. I've been up against far better than you and I'm still here..
You are so set in your stubborn archaic ways, you can't see anyone else's point of view. I can't be bothered sugar coating the facts while trying to convince you how utterly offensive you are. Your posts speak volumes about yourself. Carry on...

Now while I generally support adoption, let's also remember that this is the era of Roe v Wade. One unfortunately likely conclusion that will happen by the massive stigma attached to single moms who want to keep their kids would be more abortions. At worst, Bristol's baby will have a chance. That's more than millions of babies have.
Secondly, you don't know the situation. I don't know the situation. For all that we know, this could be the best thing to happen for the child. I don't know. Every individual situation is different.
Bravo, Eva!
A most sensible post.
Unfortuately, Palin-haters abound at FR and will seize upon any excuse to demean the wonderful Palin family.
When Greta interviewed her a few weeks ago, she talked about them getting married after they got their careers started. She sure didn’t even hint at this.
Bravo to you.
It is an act of true
love for the child.
Let me make it clear.
I have her, she belongs to me and my hubby.
But if he hadn’t come through for me, I would have given her to a loving family that would raise her with a mom and dad.
Ann Coulter is a dried-up prune and I, for one, am glad that she is beyond the age of childbearing.
“’This isnt my own meanspirited arbitrary priggery; this was the common sense of fifty years ago.’”
First of all, I think you are a well spoken and nice person. I certainly don’t believe you are meanspirited.
Secondly, I am sooooo glad to be living in the present day.
My Great Grandmother raised four daughters by herself after my Great Grandfather died from pneumonia. They were dirt farmers, no money...but my Grandmother was a wonderful musician and survived off her earnings as a pianist. Not an easy thing to do...esp. when the great depression hit.
They survived, beautiful women and very talented. Actually, when old enough they moved to California and three of the sisters became quite wealthy. My single parent great grandmother raised those girls quite nicely.
So you believe that we should glorify teen childbirth?
Fascist much?
Netmilsmom didn’t give up her baby.
When Greta interviewed Bristol, she was advocating abstinence, not promiscuity.
It’s not Sarah’s baby. It’s Bristol’s. Grandma can certainly encourage adoption, but it’s Bristol’s choice to make.
The Palins have shown they are good people, and that is why we stood behind Palin for VP. I figured the Loonies on the Left would go after Bristol/Palins; but did not think FRrians would come to blows.
Maybe it will be easier for bristol to go to college and start a good life if she’s not married.
(i know i’ll get alot of flack for this but sorry, husbands take alot of a womans energy and time)
We should glorify ALL childbirth.
Give glory to God for all living things, especially human babies!
I told him that in #206
17 year olds have a mind of their own. They know the facts. Long term consequences is another story - but that changes with experience. My mom was a stay at home mom and was about as conservative on social issues as Sarah Palin. I still did a lot of things at 16 and 17. It wasn't her fault. Things happen. Parents don't know everything. We live and we learn.
