New Google Earth requires you to allow automatic updates

I kicked up Google Earth to do some research and they had a notice that a new version was available. I've always liked Google Earth, but never really trusted the Google guys. Anyway, I downloaded it, and when I got ready to install it, a notice came up that said to continue using Google Earth I had to agree to their new terms of service, which includes allowing a Google updater to operate on my computer in the background. It said the updater would search my hard drive and update all Google products.

I clicked on decline and dropped the update in the trash. I haven't seen this notice on any of the programs before. This is the Google Earth 5.0 beta.

Actually, no. It means that the website that a webpage uses for Google Analytics is blocked. Thereby not allowing that website to track your usage of their website.
There is a way to turn off cookies but then I don't think Google Earth would work. You could try it.
Firefox has a button/checkbox that can be placed on the toolbar that will toggle cookies on or off.

Thanks for the feedback.

I get the authentication message on another install I did directly from a new .iso cd image I downloaded right off the site again this weekend - so it’s probably not malware.

I’m guessing it has to do with their branding on the Firefox browser, or something related to the custom look in mint.

Much appreciated, thanks.

Oh wait, that’s Freespire with the branded browser.

(duh) Was working with both this weekend, got them mixed up.

But anyway. Probably not an issue I guess.
