Freepers have to plan for the day when the internet is disabled or shut down
self

We need to learn of local ham/amateur radio operators and us ham operators need to have a pre-established network with designated frequencies to get our message out and around.

Don't wait for the day that either due to martial law or other catastrophic events, our communication paths are severed or greatly blocked.

I suspect there are many ham license holders that are freepers as well. We need to know about each other before the day when we wished we had done this.

I would think HAM can be disabled easier than the net.

We have some good neighbors to the north who would welcome the company: Look up “Free Dominion”

The Internet can’t be shut down, especially since the folks you fear will do so need it to get the word out to all their ACORN chapters and others—recall how they used the Internet to call on people to flood radio shows with phone calls.

Great idea. Also good would be to publish a SW freq for those of us who aren’t operators.

Don't you think the FCC will strictly control ham/amateur radio operators for the same reason they would shutdown the internet?

You mean the day when someone posts “Am I logged in?” and the answer will be “No”.

I guess we’ll have to go back to using bathroom walls, carrier pigeons, etc.

While I do agree that it might be a good thing to have backup comms if the ‘net gets closed down, I don’t know if Ham radio is practical. Not many folks have it or would even entertain getting it, and it’s not secure or private.

I suspect local gun clubs will become the backbone if SHTF. All freepers should have their license, own whatever firearms they can afford, and belong to a local club or two.

I think the Internet is a lot more easier to shut down, due to the use of phone lines and hard wired connections needed. Amateur radio only needs electricity to operate and can be moved from site to site if needed. Just about the only way is to “fire” some sort of electro-magnetic pulse device or wave[s] to disable it. Many of us Freepers have laid in spare comm gear to communicate with our family & friends in the event of such an emergency.

we need to form cells. So that we can stay in communication. We can have secret meetings and GPS drops.

This my friends would be true stamp of Communism and it would mean war. America would no longer be the America that we have loved and died for.

I for one would not stand quietly and let this happen. We have he Freedom of Speech, and freedom is not free. (See my tag line)

A FREEP-net (HAM) is a great idea...
there’s a licensed operator in this home.
I asked on my FR state location thread about this a week ago: no response.

Ok, but we non hams need a short wave radio and a designated frequency.

Plus, we need a couple of transmitters outside the country because they will definitely locate you and shut you down.

The airwaves can only be jambed, not shut down. I cannot see the feds actually interfering with all frequencies across the entire 48 states and stopping individuals with batteries/generators and radios from talking.

If our power grid(s) goes down it will only be a matter of hours until the internet starts to fade. If an EMP impacts the power grid, then expect that so many internet routers will be toast.

I keep my ham gear in a shielded cabinet and disconnected from any wires just so I can use it when the event occurs. I believe it’s just a matter of time and with O the time got much closer.

There is a guy in my SS class that is a ham operator. I was inquiring about how a “pulse” would knock out our communications. He commented, it shuts down all circuits that have a current passing through them at the moment of the “pulse”.

WATER WILL BE THE GREATEST NEED THEN. FOLLOWED BY FOOD.
BE PREPARED.

George,
I’m with ya!!!
Most of these naysayers haven’t got a clue. I believe we need to be informed. I’ll want to know who’s left after all is said and done/or it might be fun to get into a hobby like this.
