LOU RAWLS
CHICAGO
KENNY ROGERS
SCORPIONS
ZEBRA
BARRY WHITE
Used to have “If an Angel Came to See You Would You Make Her Feel at Home” many, many years ago.
“On them gravel roads, son, don’t you drive too faaaaasssst .....”
I get the Trashmen and the Shadows of Night mixed up...
The Shadows of Night were one of many bands to record a cover of Gloria.
The Trashmen merged The Bird’s The Word with Papa Oom Mow Mow (both by the Rivingtons) and somehow got labelled a midWest “surf” band. Later Surfin Bird was covered by the Cramps and the Ramones (who sought approval from the Cramps to likewise cover the song).
Kenny Rogers????? You??????
I did not put Led Zepplin on my list, I'm tired of them believe it or not.
Ditto on Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen!
From the song, “Hot Rod Lincoln”:
“My pappy said, Son, you gonna drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop drivin’ that Hot Rod Lincoln.”
I thought Shadows of Night were first to do Gloria.
It was written by Van Morrison of Them
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_(Them_song)
And later also covered by The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and countless high school garage bands (a good number of which really rocked and were released to small press singles).
Or they were Kenny Gorelick fans that he is a jazz artist and are afraid to admit they like him. So they just say they liked jazz....
Wow. I should have known that; just forgot. I’ve got all of Van’s CDs, including the latest...
But you’ll be a long time crossin’.....
lol yes.
Where is Coven?
U2 seems a little high given that all the songs sound the same. So much Liberal Rubbish!
Agreed
Dfwgator wrote: “I listened to Black Sabbath at 78 speed, and I saw God.”
I did the same at 33 and a third at ten years of age (Master of Reality) - but you’re obviously a hard case. A good grounding in the Beatles prepared me for it. A good grounding in classical music prepared me for good rock.
I used to spontaneously say “rap rhymes with crap” but have found that continuous exposure makes me discern the better practitioners from the herd. Lil Wayne is an incomprehensible idiot destined for an early demise.
Going on 50 I find I don’t recognize half the musical acts on the late shows, let alone the pop music charts. That’s alright as most of them are never heard from again. There IS a push for bad artists via Carson Daly and now Jimmy Fallon - smarmy punks with tin ears who mistake popularity for taste. Do they even know they’re being used as shills?
Keep up the good work, people, and Don’t Fear the Reaper.
Moon 84% full.
Coven in grove.
Vernal Equinox soon.
Ungh.
Do you have Van Morrison’s contractual obligation album?

And something a little more satisfying... the James Hunter albums? He was a backup singer for Van Morrison for 10 years. He’s got 3 albums out of blue eyed soul.
