I electronically submitted my taxes a month ago, and I'm still waiting for my tax refund from NC (direct deposit). Got my Fed (direct deposit) two weeks ago, and for the last two years, NC has been quicker.
Is NC holding my money hostage? Has there been any press on widespread refund delays, and I've missed it?
Thanks in advance.
Excuse my quick typing.
Is anyone waiting FOR an N.C. tax refund?
Knowing NC, your federal refund will probably be taxed.
I would change your withholding so that you owe them - not they owe you at the end of the year.
Thanks, but I got an unpleasant surprise one year, and would prefer to not have to write a check.
It’s not much, but it’s the principle.
An unrelated vanity... (sort of)... I am due to get refunds from both state and federal, but I feel it is wrong to submit the returns forms until I ACTUALLY put the money into my IRA that I will use as a deduction. I have been waiting for the markets to recover a little to pull money out of mutual fund to put into the IRA... you can see where this is going.
What is FReeper advice on should I go ahead and file my returns, and then I can at least use the refunds to pay part of the IRA contribution? -OR- is it unethical to file the returns before I actually fund the IRA?
Sorry I know nothing about NC....
All my daughter got from her State of California tax refund was an I.O.U.
Nope, I'm not waiting of a N.C. tax refund. But I am waiting of the Domino's guy to deliver my pizza.
Well, complaining about the givers of prosperity just doesn't work.
Individual freedom does work.
There is another option-don’t declare the IRA contribution until you get your refund and then file an amended return. You should get a refund of the amount of your IRAxYour marginal tax rate.
Hope this helps
Opps:
Amount of refund on amended return: Amount of IRA Contribution for tax year 2008 times your marginal tax rate.
I actively manage what I give the SOBs every month and whittle it down to zero by making an IRA contribution. I shoot for zero back or due. I don’t trust them and do not wish to cede control of my money to them and their incompetent whims. Especially now that they are short and don’t have the money to give it back to me.
As a Charlotte resident with all the taxing authorities aligned against me, I feel pretty powerless. Fortunately I can move to South Carolina (I never thought I’d say that) and improve 3 of the 4 taxing agencies in one fell swoop.
Wiki Sons of Liberty as well. It’s time to recreate this group.
Here is a forum that talks about NC refunds and why things are slow. In a nutshell, NC is taking 4-6 weeks to process returns (even those done via e-file).
