People are so stupid sometimes. There is a difference in excessive political correctness, and crossing over a line of common decency.
The joke over the water fountain was in very poor taste. The “I rent to whites only” sign was actually probably a violation of the fair housing act.

The I rent to whites only sign was actually probably a violation of the fair housing act. That's not what her sign said. Her sign did not say "I WILL only rent to whites". From the text of what her sign actually says, it could just be a statement of current fact if her current renters are white.
