Hi all,
I'm researching AR 15s for the same reason most here are.... personal and home defense if things go to "mad max", and becuase I'm afraid that if I wait much longer I won't be able to get one.
Never owned one; right now I own a 12ga shotgun, 2 .270 deer rifles, and my favorite, a 6.5x55 Swede chambered Tikka deer rifle.
Because of my last selection, I started hand-loading. As far as AR-15s go, I'm thinking about the newer 6.8mm version, which should have better stopping power than a 5.56 but less recoil than an AR-10 with a .308.
If I'm not afraid to handload, are there other negatives to considering the 6.8mm?
Thanks!
Guess you need glasses...
Whatever. I still think it’s a handy little carbine as long as you respect its limitations.
Your original post mentioned the “action”. The action of the carbine and the Mini are the same.
And your next posts are completely correct. The individual parts of the Mini does share most of it’s origin to John Garand.
Ditto...
Perhaps I was less than precise in the use of the term. If so, my apologies...
That’s cute - should get one for my wife and grandaughter.
Thanks for the great insights everyone.
The more I look at brass availablity the less I’m interested in the 6.8mm. I have found a Rock River Lower and it is on its way to my FFL rep. I may give up and just get a 5.56 upper.
I’m very interested in the “other” AR-15 caliber, the 6.5 Grendel. Not easy uppers to obtain, but they are out there. 6.5 bullets are very readily available, and 7.62X39 brass can be used to form a Grendel case....... and it is pretty available. Better ballistics than the 5.56 by a long shot, less recoil than a 308. Many think that if the military were to start fresh they’d go with this round.
Oh, by the way....... I really like your cat!!
I think you meant to ping “I Buried My Guns”! What cat? All I saw were two nice firearms!!!
For a good solid warning and a now really motivated backup .... yeah I'll pass one down with no questions.
Maybe I’m weird ... but I like that thing, except for the damnable Kalifornia Grip. It would be a hoot to show up at the range with that ... freak people out.
