The Yeslam Aviator: Osama Bin Laden's Brother Builds The Ultimate Pilot's Watch
Sticking with today's theme of new watch releases, we're here to tell you about one of the more interesting watches we've heard about in a while. It is called the Aviator from Swiss luxury brand Yeslam. The Yeslam brand is owned by a man named Yeslam Bin Laden, who happens to be the estranged half-brother of Osama Bin Laden. Yeslam, who attended the University of Southern California, now lives in Switzerland and hasn't spoken to his more famous (or infamous?) brother in decades.
Enough about that, lets talk about the watch. The Aviator line is the first mechanical wrist watch that allows its wearer to calculate air speed should the plane's electronic instruments fail. Not surprisingly, the Yeslam Aviator features a Tourbillon and is aimed at both professional pilots and high grade watch aficionados. The watch will retail for in between $9,000 and $24,000 based on materials.
What is interesting about this particular watch is that its design and functionality were inspired by the death of Bin Laden's father in a 1967 plane crash in Saudi Arabia. The official press release reads:
The ability to read True Air Speed, without complicated calculations, on the bezel of this time piece, combined with the delicate engravings and the ingenuity of its various mechanisms, give The Aviator an originality that leaves nothing to be desired even for the most demanding experts.
An interesting new watch for a variety of reasons, we would love to get our hands on one.
Does it feature a picture of the burning Twin Towers on the face? (Link didn’t work.)
They're made by a company called Marathon and they're VERY hard for civilians to get.
I don’t understand the “(sic)” in the title. Everything seems to be grammatically correct, including spelling. What did I miss?
It's a nice looking watch, but I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it.

so; thus: usually written parenthetically to denote that a word, phrase, passage, etc., that may appear strange or incorrect has been written intentionally or has been quoted verbatim: He signed his name as e. e. cummings (sic).
I'm waiting for the new Timex "Busrider", black plastic, at Target of Inglewood.
So waddaImiss (sic)?
Let's ask al baby, father of the beeber.
Doesn’t it seem a little strange, if not actually creepy, to you that a bin Laden would come out with a watch he and others refer to as the ultimate pilot’s watch? Gotta get that wind speed correct if you want to hit the buildings just right, ‘ya know.
Yes, I see. It’s sick.
here’s a watch model you’ll be refusing to fix!

(grin!) The Russians make fantastic watches. I’m wearing a KGB watch: 17 jewels, perpetual, 31-day calendar, steel case, waterproof. $40. I liked it so much I bought another one for my son. It looks utilitarian and it is: but it keeps excellent time.
As a bench watchmaker for 64 years this watch is proof that:
Some have too much time on their hands.
Some have too much money in their pockets.
Some have too few brains in their heads.
This watch is for (1)(2)(3) above.
This is a pipe dream, I work with reality.
