Let it be said that it makes little sense to accuse LDS of a lack of modesty when the stories are reported largely to a Mormon audience. Those who feel by any other spirit than the one that is originally intended, choose to of their own accord, making their folly fully manifest.
I didn't know that Deseret News is a Mormon publication until someone pointed it out to me. I never thought it was a big deal. How was I to know that it is part of a conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids?
There is something “sinister” going on here, and there is a reason some are fighting it.

I personally want to thank you for what you did to this thread. Not only has your true intent been exposed here, but you essentially sent a message to others making the whole program of donating these wheelchairs not worth peoples time and money in effect, hedging against the children that will receive this charity; and to think only because LDS is involved in the program.

By your own words, then it was mostly non-mormons who reported the act of charity, Right? And what does that say for your ilk who are here sending the message that Mormons are tooting their own horn? Spare me.

And you may want to look at sevenbak comments, who so earnestly conveys the fact that the paper is ran by non-Mormons, who, IN EFFECT, reported the story and carrying the mantle of the tooting horn for the church, that you and your ilk tried so desparately to place upon the LDS church.

and CNN is owned by the saudis. The newscasters aren’t Saudi, and yet we see a pro-Arab, anti-Israel bias from CNN/Time hmm. That’s how it works. They write what they are expected to write.
I didn’t make this about LDS. Others have come along & chosen to make it not about the way it was presented, just as we would do with CNN/AP/whatever, but they want to make it about them. I made several friendly overtures in my first posts, but that has been completely ignored, and I have just been attacked by you “and your ilk”.
I have an issue not with the wheelchairs (which is a good thing) but with the PR aspect of it.
It screams “Look, see how good we are?”. That bothers me and IT WOULD BOTHER ME IF IT WERE ANY OTHER CHURCH AS WELL.
When I was LDS, I showed my never-mo grandfather a news article about something the Church had done. I remember saying to him “See? This proves we are Christians.” His response? “Charity does not make one a Christian, Christ does”.
Then he asked me if I knew why he went to the bank (53 miles away from our farm) every Friday. It was because he tithed and gave all of his donations ANONYMOUSLY. He never just wrote a check.
I have learned to follow his example. I believe that ALL charitable giving should be done anonymously, in the spirit of the verses here. Helping others and serving the Lord is more important than PR, recognition, or tax deductions.

Why can't the headline be about the good that was done. In the body of the story the group can be mentioned.
