But aren’t they fresh-water dogs, not salt?
The 0s do salt. Never seen ‘em near a lake once.
My observation: They are trying to balance their “just regular folks” and “elite upper/ruling class” images—
from a humble shelter, they are looking for a very pricey specialty breed—and of course, they will magically find this perfect dog waiting for adoption in a shelter in April, after Spring Break. Sheesh.
“At least I don’t leave my girlfriends in the car.”
Ted’s hair came back good, but what is that hanging on his collar??
seriously , that dog is all sorts of cute
Cute puppy! Hope the Obama girls get to enjoy having their dog.
Will he be registered to vote?
Poor dog.
Isn’t Frank the name of that guy that mentored Obama? Wonder who thought that one up? Don’t you love anything the Obamas have to say they put in a little dig?
Poor Dog! How about the poor breeders of good PWDs, who are now going to be crowded out by all the scum breeders who want to get in on the “dogbreed du jour”!
The truly reputable/responsible breeders live in fear of popular movies/idols choosing their breed, for they know what will happen.
Makes me sad for the poor dogs.
If you really want a good dog, pay no attention to the AKC, movies, celeb dogs, etc.
Go instead to UKC dog shows, and be prepared to watching something like paint drying. But, you will see dedicated breeders there, who are consumed with all aspects of their particular breed, and the judges are superior.
Each dog is judged on it’s merits, and gets a personal evaluation. A very good place to find a well-balanced dog, in my humble opinion.
I own two wonderful Belgian Malinois, who did very well in UKC shows. They weren’t judged on just how they looked, but on temperament, work drive, response to stimulus, and obedience.
UKC is so much better at judging good dogs. But, be prepared to sit until your butt is numb watching the judges evaluate each dog that goes into the ring. Makes AKC look totally stupid, in my humble opinion.
But . . . if you don't want to be bored to tears, go to a UKC performance event. We do the UKC Hunting Retriever Club "hunting tests for retrievers".
They try to duplicate as much as possible "real life" situations that a retriever might meet in the field. At the elementary level, a 'started' dog does two single land retrieves of less than 50 yards, and two single water retrieves of less than 40 yards. The next level, 'seasoned', the dog must do a walk-up, double retrieve, blind, and diversion bird on land, and a double retrieve and blind on the water. That's where my girls are right now -- one is fairly experienced in 'seasoned' tests, and the other is what my husband calls "only lightly seasoned".
But if you go on the UKC website you can find all sorts of performance events for almost any breed of dog, and that is the place to find your breed. Dogs ought to have a job.
You couldn’t have picked a more perfect name!
It was temperamentally, not temporarily.
...yeah. I noticed my mistake. The “temporarily” still stands as a very good possibility though.
“Portuguese Water Dog to adopt from a shelter”
Somehow I really don’t believe there are enough PWDs that any of them would be in a pound.
