Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
Thanks for that refreshment!
You are welcome.......
Our GR is a rescue ....but we are the ones who were rescued. The little guy is priceless.
Very nice. My wife and I adopted a two year old girl in January. We adopted her from the SPCA and she came to us completely house trained and is an excellent companion. We feel very fortunate in finding her.
First “good” cry I’ve had in a while. I’ve been saved by quite a few of these tender creatures many times in my life:)
Three of our four critters are rescue. Love them all.
where is the poem?
All but one of my last eight dogs have been rescues. The “store-bought” dog was an anomaly - my wife and kids stopped by the pet store one day to see the puppies. You can guess what happened next... :)
Very nice.....but my screen got blurry for some reason.....
Are you the singer? The song was wonderful....
“If you take a dog which is starving and feed him and make him prosperous, that dog will not bite you. This is the primary difference between a dog and a man.”
Mark Twain

Funny, I was just looking at this site: http://labs4rescue.com/labsadoption.shtml that rescues Labs. Thinking of getting another one.
I'm in the process of creating the 19th & 20th versions for adoption groups around the country to embed on their websites. I swap out the last 13 pictures for greys from their own groups and change the scrolling credits. You can see the other versions by clicking on 'more videos from AJ30907'... the changes occur about 3 1/2 minutes into each video.
I'm not sure on the blurry screen, sometimes YouTube will revert from a better quality view to their normal view which is much fuzzier.
My 12 year old pound puppy is under anestesia right now to remove a a nasty, quick-growing tumor from her paw. I'm worried to death about what it may be.
Boy I’m a softy..
